Data Base Management System

Definition:DBMS is a set of programs or software which is designed to store and manage databases. y y y y y A very large integrated collection of data. DBMS may use any variety of data models such as network model or relational model. It controls the organization storage, management and retrieval of data in the data base. DBMS are categorized according to their structure of data or type of data. DBMS accepts requests for data from the application programs and instruct the operating system to transfer appropriate data.

DBMS consists of a combination of pre-written software programs controlling the following functions of a database: y y y y y Storage Organization Management Update Retrieval of data.

Whole business can be managed by DBMS. One DBMS can be used to analyze the day to day transactions and other one can be utilized to analyze in detail randomly the data which were collected at the primary stage. The system design is controlled by data administrator and data analyst. The input and output of data is fully depended up on the user. The detail database designed is made by the database administrator.

DBMS tasks:
Managing large quantity of structured data Efficient retrieval and modification: query processing and optimization Sharing data: multiple users use and manipulate data Controlling the access to data: maintaining the data integrity

Health organizations like medical centers, hospitals etc, and needed record of their patients so its become crucial to record all the data. Multinational companies deals in very huge financial transactions its necessary them to keep up to date record of all the information.

Government agencies have to record all the information for proof.
