and Sales Internship (2 positions) Music@Menlo Chamber Music Festival & Institute David Finckel & Wu Han, Artistic Directors Location: Atherton/Menlo Park/Palo Alto, California MUSIC@MENLO, the San Francisco Peninsulas premier chamber music festival, will take place July 20August 11, 2012, bringing some of the worlds leading musicians, students, and scholars to the San Francisco Bay Area for three weeks of public concerts, lectures, and workshops. Concurrent with the festival is Music@Menlos Chamber Music Institute, which offers two distinct programs for serious music students and preprofessional musicians ages 9 to 29. To learn more, please visit www.musicatmenlo.org. Description Music@Menlo is seeking mature, reliable Merchandising and Sales Interns for its 2012 season. Successful candidates will have the opportunity to learn more about what goes on behind the scenes at a major arts festival and to gain valuable, practical skills in marketing, event planning, and arts management. Merchandising and Sales Interns work closely with Music@Menlo staff to plan and execute a number of activities focused on the marketing and sales of festival merchandise. Responsibilities Merchandising and Sales Interns will be responsible for a variety of activities, which include but are not limited to: Assist with all aspects of marketing and sales for festival merchandise, including CDs, posters, note cards, books, t-shirts, etc. Prepare and present merchandise proposal to festival staff recommending new items to sell for festival season, including product pricing and projected sales Research and contact vendors for price quotes on merchandise and place orders for new festival merchandise Provide on-site concession sales at festival concerts, which includes set-up, breakdown, and cleanup Oversee merchandise sales at festivals Welcome Center Work with festival staff to arrange artist autograph sessions during events Perform daily inventory check of all festival merchandise and reconcile cash sales; prepare sales reports Design and assemble attractive and engaging merchandise packaging and product displays Work with Development and Artist Liaison interns on home host, event host, and artist gifts Create and distribute promotional materials to local businesses and civic outlets Represent the festival professionally and responsibly at all times, from working with vendors to welcoming festival guests and artists Other duties may be assigned to ensure the overall success of the festival.

Qualifications The ideal candidates will have strong writing, analytical, organizational and interpersonal skills; advanced skills with computers and technology; impeccable attention to detail; positive energy and a willingness to pitch in and be a team player wherever needed. The position requires flexibility and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment. The successful candidates will demonstrate availability, energy, willingness, and stamina to work long days and evenings, including weekends (see more detail below). An interest in classical music or the performing arts is helpful, but not required. In addition, the following qualifications must be demonstrated for this position: Ability to remain calm in a fast-paced environment with a friendly demeanor Ability to work independently but integrate with a larger, cohesive team Ability to lift and carry at least 40 pounds Valid drivers license and reliable transportation Preferred Knowledge of the Atherton/Menlo Park/Palo Alto area Graphic design and/or accounting skills Dates/Work Hours/Stipend Full-time internship dates are June 18 through August 17, 2012. Work hours prior to July 20 will be approximately 8am5pm, MondayFriday. Once the festival begins, days and nights will be long and physically demanding for the duration and will include weekends. All interns are required to complete a successful background check as required by California State law. Stipends generally available in the range of $1,5001,750. Successful candidates will be responsible for securing their own housing and transportation arrangements in the Atherton/Menlo Park/Palo Alto area.
