Book Fair
A massive thank you to everyone for buying books from the Book Fair. We sold 930 of books and we earned about 500 of free books for the school. This is fantastic. The books will go into classrooms as well as the library for the children to enjoy. The next book fair will be next year after World Book Day. We hope you all enjoyed it and that your children were pleased with their purchases.

Readathon
Just a quick reminder as the Easter holidays approach that we are asking all children in the school to be sponsored for maintaining their reading during the Easter holiday. We do hope that they will enjoy the challenge and the books that they choose to read will give them great pleasure. The causes are all very worthwhile, and we do appreciate any sponsorship you can raise, no matter how small. Sponsorship should be returned to school on the first day back after Easter. Many thanks Ms Case

Swimming
Swimarathon Many thanks to the teams and their parents who came and supported the children on Friday night. The Sharks beat the school record with 149 lengths in 55 minutes. This was an amazing achievement by Jessica Portch, Alex Blackwell, Pepe Garralda, Daisy Williamson, Imogen Rees and Eleanor Clark. At the halfway point they were well below the target of the team last year then pulled together in a true Tockington team performance to increase their speed and total lengths. The Under 11s beat their record set a number of years ago and achieved 121 lengths. Plagued by the after-effects of colds, sore throats and bugs this was a remarkable score. Tockington was first and second out of the 14 lanes which included many adult teams. Well done to the Dolphins (Zac Portch, Thomas Edwards, Abigail Blackwell, Larry Williamson and Olivia Campbell. Swimming News Due to illness, exams and trips out over ten pupils are waiting to complete their stamina awards and the results will be published as soon as they have all been completed. At the moment Daisy Williamson leads the school and the Under 13s with a swim of 1330 metres in 20 minutes. The most improved swimmers of the term are: Sebastian Lane (Reception); Jeanne Veron (Year 1); Isabelle Preston (Year 2); Louis Clevett (Year 3); Alex Jacobi (Year 4); Alex Gooch (Year 5); Ijeoma Ogbogbo (Year 6); Nkechi Ogbogbo (Year 7) and Daisy Williamson (Year 8). Congratulations! This term we have been looking at stamina and all of these pupils have made significant improvements in their stamina. Year 2 Swimming Year 2 is the first year in which the children are formally assessed in their stamina and a correct stroke has to be swum. They swim for no longer that 15 minutes. Their results are outstanding: Leonidas Lazarides (550m plus); Joe Ancell (350m plus); Peter Banks and Rohan Howard-Robinson (300m plus); Iona Campbell and Jake Wakeling (200m plus); Carmen Rey-Jones, Lucy-Ann Gingell and Freddie Cooper (150m plus); Harry Huby, Sam Gardiner and Archie Carter (100m plus); Amelia Dengel (75m plus); Lou Saelens and Isabelle Preston (25m plus). A special mention must go to Isabelle who was a nonswimmer in September and who has worked really hard to improve. The National Curriculum states that all children should be able to swim 25m by Year 6.Congratulations, Year 2; you really are water babies. Mrs Hinchliffe

Thornbury Eisteddfod
Speech & Drama Last Saturday I spent the day with fifteen of our pupils and their families at the Eisteddfod in Thornbury. It was most enjoyable listening to the children who were involved in a range of classes from Verse Speaking to Duo Poems, from Story Telling to Reading Aloud. We had a large number of successes with children being rewarded with Outstanding achievement certificates as well as those for Distinction, Commended and Merit. All of the children were praised highly by the adjudicator and some were invited to perform again at the Winners Concert on 27th March, notably Tom Edwards for Reading Aloud and Daisy Williamson and Lucy AllanJones for their Duo Poem. The school will get a chance to celebrate their success anew next week in the Eisteddfod assembly which will also include the musical achievements of the children. Many thanks to all parents and children who gave up their Exeat Saturday to perform. And many congratulations too. Ms Case Choir Congratulations to the choir who gave an excellent performance of Rock-a My Soul in the Eisteddfod yesterday. Many thanks to Mrs Sapkota and Mrs George for their support and encouragement.

Cross Country
Goose Egg Gallop Winners: Nathan Adams, Lucy England, Seren Clayton. St.Patricks Day Run Winners: Bennie Sanzo, Max Curtis Many excellent performances which included 20 personal bests. The highlight was Max Curtis who broke the Junior Boys CC record by 9 secs. which had been held by David Agard-Evans for over 14 years. Max had equalled the record last week. The record now stands at 7 mins 34 secs! Congratulations, Max. Next week is the final cross country run of the 2011-12 season. The pupils will be competing for the Clarke Cup for House Cross Country.
