Reflection Lab

The experiment aimed to investigate the law of reflection, demonstrating that the angle of incidence equals the angle of reflection. Using a mirror and optical pins, the experiment confirmed the law through various angles. Limitations included improper tracing of the mirror outline and ensuring the mirror was straight.

Title: Reflection

Aim: To investigate the law of reflection

Apparatus: Materials:

 Ruler  Mirror
 Pencil  Optical board
 Protractor  White paper grid line
 Tape  Optical pins or thumb

tacks

 Tape
Method:

1. The white sheet of paper was secured onto the optical board using tape.

2. The mirror was placed on the sheet, and its outline was traced.

3. A normal to the mirror was drawn on the sheet of paper relative to the outline.

4. Angles from 10 to 70 degrees were constructed relative to the normal using a

protractor.

5. Two optical pins were placed on the line constructed for the 10-degree angle.

6. The mirror was observed from the other side of the normal, and the gaze was shifted

until the images of the two pins were aligned.

7. Two additional pins were placed in line with the two images so that the final pin

blocked the images of the first two pins and the third pin itself.

8. Steps 5 to 7 were repeated for the other angles.

Data analysis:

1. The law of reflection states that when a ray of light is reflected off a surface, the angle of

incidence is equal to the angle of reflection.

2. The results of the experiment confirmed the law of Reflection

Discussion

Reflection is the change of direction of the propagation of a wave when it strikes a medium. The

law of reflection states that when a ray of light is reflected off a surface, the angle of incidence is

equal to the angle of reflection. After conducting the experiment, the law of reflection has been

proven.
Sources or error

 The outline was not traced properly.

Limitation

 The mirror was not straight.

Precaution

 Ensure the outline is traced properly.

Conclusion

The aim of the experiment was to investigate the law of reflection. We have proven the law of

reflection.
