How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?

At the beginning of my project, I decided to research into other promotional items. I decided to deconstruct band posters, to see what conventions I could convey in my own. I found that they used similar fonts, colours, and themes to the digipaks and music videos. They also usually contained a tracklist (which I included in my digipak) and sometimes song lyrics, which I didnt add into my piece because I felt that the song wouldve been too long in relation to my desired size of the digipak. The deconstructions also shown that the band posters and digipaks consisted of a band logo, this was not the case in my piece, because I felt that the font used on the digipak, didnt suit the poster. So I decided to focus on other continuity elements. I decided from the beginning that it would be crucial to have continuity between my main product and the ancillary texts. I did this by keeping the location and theme of the main product throughout the pieces, for example my poster has one of the music videos locations in it. Also, my digipak cover has the character of the music video in, although in a different costume and location. I decided this costume was more appropriate, because I wanted my digipak and poster to feature bright colours, as I felt this would appeal more to my target audience. My target audience was originally just teens in general, but I changed this to mostly female fans, as the story of the main product is more relatable to this target audience as apposed to a more mixed sex audience. The bright, contrasting colours of pink, blue and green colours appeals more to this audience, this contributes to the successful promotion of the music and artist. As you can see, my poster and digipak consists of similar colour schemes, for example the front and back cover of the digipak consists of bright blue and pink colours, and the consists of bright green and pink colours. Although, with my poster I decided I needed to edit some layers onto the photo, which is the bright flash seen across the poster, and the little specs of light. I felt this made the poster seem more appealing to the audience, and it really emphasised the locations beauty, which mad it stand out more than just having the colours of the poster edited. Which means the colours and the locations are the main continuity factors in relation to my main product, and this shows how the combination of my main product and my ancillary texts work as a whole.
