INDIVIDUAL REPORT

GLOBAL PERSPECTIVE
 Does technology create more jobs than it takes
away?
INTRODUCTION
Technology has always been a major player in how jobs evolve. People who lack
technological advancements say that, automation and AI might take away some
jobs, but they also open up new possibilities in areas like making software, online
security, and building robots. Looking back, new tech has usually just changed
what jobs are out there, not gotten rid of them completely, like during the
Industrial Revolution and the rise of the internet age. In the end the only purpose
of technology is to make things more uniform or in a uniformly pattern.

GLOBAL CAUSES AND CONSEQUENCES

The rapid growth of technology has created a lot of questions in the mind of
those who have lack of technological advancements and they think that this
technology would replace human jobs and also their lives. In today’s world the
use of automation is too much that it has lead to replacement in many sectors of
work especially in those which can be done in a uniform pattern this change saves
more time and reduces the amount of workers working for low wages, A report
by the McKinsey Global institute found out that up to 800 million jobs could be
lost worldwide due to automation by 2030. (SOURCE: McKinsey Global Institute,
2019). These advancements increase the productivity of a business producing
more with fewer workers which lead to economic growth.

This change further welcomes Globalization which connects a part of developing

country to the open world, allowing goods and services which creates a rapid
growth in economy. A report from the WTO(World Trade Organizations) proves
that because of globalization there is an increase in economic growth, with the
value of International trade increasing from $3.4 trillion in 1990 to $22.9 trillion in
2020 (SOURCE: World Trade Organization,2020). With all the benefits
Globalization has given it has any negative effects like It creates an income
inequality which has proved to be beneficial for some groups and businesses. It
also has a huge impact on environment, like for example the large amount of
transportation of goods and services contributes negatively on the greenhouse
gas emissions. A report from the WWF (World Wildlife Fund) found that the
transportation of goods and services account for over 60% of greenhouse gas
emissions (SOURCE: World Wildlife Fund,2020).

Many countries has faced this change like Japan. Japan’s heavy use of automation
helps prevent labor shortages but also replaces many low-skill jobs. While
industries like robotics and AI create new opportunities, traditional workers
struggle to adapt. The government supports retraining programs to help workers
shift into tech fields. Overall, technology both eliminates and creates jobs, with
success depending on workforce adaptability. A study from the University of
Chicago Press (1978-2017) found that automation increased both employment
and productivity in robot-adopting industries, like Japan

NATIONAL PERSPECTIVE

In Pakistan because of the rapid advancements in technology, the job market is

changing fast, particularly in online shopping, IT and online banking. Automation
is decreasing employment in fields such as textiles and manufacturing; however,
it is generating new positions in software development, freelancing and digital
marketing. A skills shortage among many workers widens the employment gap.
Government investment in digital literacy along with vocational training is active.
Progress, however, is slow. Important technical improvements in Pakistan are
creating several jobs while simultaneously eliminating others; future growth in
this sector will depend on adequate education and thorough skill development.
A Report from ResearchGate shows that automation boosts productivity, it also
threatens low-skilled jobs. This change is reshaping the employment sectors in
not only Pakistan but in all over the world. An article titled "How AI and
Automation Will Affect Employment in Pakistan?" analyzes the potential for job
displacement in traditional sectors where automation will work instead of local
workers in repetitive tasks.

SOLUTION & COURSES OF ACTION

To avoid this rapid change there is a series of things government can do to

prevent the job displacement. Governments and companies should offer training
in digital skills, programs for coding, and education about AI to help workers
adjust to new job requirements. Growing programs like e-Rozgaar in Pakistan or
Japan's Reskilling Consortium can make sure workers remain employable.
Government can also help people to use technology so that it creates a gateway
to better jobs boosting the economy, people can also invest in green energy and
biotechnology thus increasing the job sectors for the local workers who have now
become professionals in their fields. With automation there is still need for
workers who are there to run the automation machines because at some point
there would be a need for the local workers.

EVALUATION OF SOURCES
The WWF and WTO are seen as dependable knowledge sources because of their
trustworthiness, research-based method, as well as global acknowledgement.
They use expert collaboration, clear methods and data-based reports to give
correct information. Their research largely effects many policies. It strongly
supports a lot of international cooperation and effectively guides decision-
making. With their remarkably wide-ranging networks and decidedly authoritative
publications, both organizations guarantee reliably well-researched knowledge in
their respective fields, thus making them genuinely trusted sources worldwide for
both ecological and economic information.
CONCLUSION

Technology has an impact on the job market, getting rid of some jobs while
opening up new ones. Machines and AI cut down the need for simple low-skill
work. Japan shows this by using machines to avoid worker shortages, which
replaces old jobs. But new fields like robotics AI, and online marketing are
popping up making new jobs. In Pakistan, machines are cutting factory jobs but
creating work in freelancing and tech. This change makes work more productive
and helps the economy grow, but it also makes people worry about job loss and
money gaps. Countries that put money into teaching tech skills retraining
workers, and new industries can handle this change better. While tech does take
some jobs away how it affects things overall depends on how well people adjust
to it making sure the economy moves forward and jobs stay steady.
