To the honorable speaker of the house, people in the gallery, my competent colleagues, worthy opponents, ladies and gentlemen,

good morning! This house would, should, must ban Korean Pop or K-Pop in the Philippines. I am but extremely saddened by the fact that many of our citizens today tend to patronize more alien songs than the ones originally and creatively written by our own composers. It is indeed a sad fact, your honor, that more and more songs from Korea are played and used in radio and television programs, in dance numbers and among others rather than Filipino-composed songs whether in English, Taglish, or Filipino. It is high time for us to strengthen our own identity, your honor. We are not discriminating and throwing away the Koreans. They are always welcome to visit and perhaps live in the country. Truth to tell, they have started selling and trading Korean made goods years ago. What we want is also to place the Philippines on top of the Music industry in the world by banning Korean Pop. Efforts of our local artists to bring up OPM or Original Pinoy Music in the music scene are dumped by local listeners of this K-Pop. I find it ironic for the Filipino people loving what is not their own and setting aside what they could call their own and be proud of it. It is a sign of weak nationalism. Though nationalism does not only count in terms of the songs we listen to, it is still a part of it. It is probably one of the best ways to sing to the world your love for your country. Francis M. is one of those who used this method. It is more proper to uplift and further develop our own songs, your honor. Let us put into action the famous line, Mahalin ang sariling atin. Let this line not only be applicable to our locally made goods. It will not only be beneficial for our artists but the country as well. Beneficial in what way? If ever our OPM be known worldwide, This is the modern and newest way of poisoning our nationalism. Why listen and patronize songs you can barely understand?
