Year 6 Spelling Folder- Michaelmas Term

BECAUSE- big elephants can

always understand small elephants

The Year 6 Spelling Folder

Every week you will have a list of 20 words to learn. Some of these will be words covered in
previous years, as experience shows that revision is needed for the trickier words to ‘stick.’
You need to spend time practising the spellings and equally importantly, making sure you
know what they mean. Each week you will have an exercise to help with this, where you
have to put the words into a context to show that you understand them. This means that you
will be continually expanding your vocabulary as well as improving your spelling.

Ask an adult at home or an older sibling to help you. They could test you on your spellings
each week, and you could discuss the meanings with them.

Please keep this folder at home in a safe place. We will ask you to complete the spelling
activity each week, and then you will be tested on each week’s word list in school.

Your English teacher will tell you which day your spellings will be tested on.

Good luck!
