Phonathon Job Descriptions Phonathon Student Manager: The Phonathon employs two student managers one available each night of calling. The managers are responsible for hiring, training, and overseeing the calling staff; providing leadership and creative direction to the staff team; employee documentation; supervising the distribution of incentives; conducting quality assurance measures; employee evaluations; payroll; goal setting and extended disciplinary procedures. The student managers must be extremely detail-oriented and have strong organizational, communication, critical thinking, and leadership skills. Prerequisites include a high standard of leadership and performance in all roles held at the Phonathon, and usually one year in the Phonathon Supervisor position. Phonathon Student Supervisor: The Phonathon employs six student supervisors two working each night of calling. Supervisors run nightly operations, including station set-up; tracking pledges; counseling and motivating callers; pulling statistical and comment reports; announcement postings; answering procedural questions; taking attendance; supervising the distribution of incentives; initial disciplinary procedure; monitoring calls throughout the shift and helping the Phonathon callers perform to their highest potential. Supervisors are also involved in recruiting, hiring and training new callers. Supervisors are expected to provide creative direction to the staff team as a whole, and must be detail-oriented with strong organizational, communication, and critical thinking skills. Prerequisites include a year of strong Phonathon caller performance, and usually one year of experience as a Phonathon caller. Phonathon Logistics Assistants: The Phonathon employs two logistics assistants. Phonathon logistics assistants are students who provide technical and creative support for such programs as the Senior Class Gift Program, the Loyola Annual Fund, student profiles, Phonathon activity planning and caller incentives. They also maintain information databases and manage mailings for the Phonathon. Duties also include mailings of pledges, reminders and thank you letters; clerical, organizational, and administrative office work; alumni research; communication with sponsoring organizations; event planning and organization. Phonathon assistants must be organized, strong

communicators, who are detail-oriented. Prerequisites include proficiency with office software including Word and Excel, with the ability to learn other software quickly. Phonathon Caller Trainer: The Phonathon employs numerous caller trainers. This position is held by a Phonathon caller with an outstanding level of knowledge and experience. The primary responsibility is to serve as a direct aid to the callers, both old and new. A caller trainer is expected to be attentive to the needs of the other callers in the room during any given calling shift. Caller trainers provide peer to peer counseling throughout the night; recognize outstanding calls and those which can be improved for both old and new callers; explain and demonstrate how to use the SmartCall software during Phase II training for new callers; communicate general and specific performance trends to supervisors and managers; and attend supervisor/manager meetings when requested. Prerequisites include strong performance as a Phonathon caller and a masterful knowledge of Phonathon procedures. **Qualified applicants for the Supervisor position may be automatically considered for the Caller Trainer position at the discretion of management.

The most important aspect of your paper application is that you submit well-thought out answers that demonstrate critical thinking and an aptitude for leadership within the Phonathon. To that end, a final application totaling two to four pages in length is advised. Obviously, some applications will require more space because there are more questions to answer. Do not waste energy being concerned or confused about the length guideline, and instead make the best effort possible to answer every question fully and honestly, conveying your value as an applicant and your insight into the questions being asked in concise language appropriate for a business setting. Elaborate on how you will incorporate each role into your duties as manager as well as how it will affect your interactions with other staff members. 6. What is the difference between doing a job and developing a program? What is your personal vision for the development of the Phonathon?

Phonathon Supervisor 1. Describe your leadership style. How does it compare to the styles of others you have worked with in the past? Elaborate on your styles advantages. 2. Describe an idea for a project you would like to implement or improve as a supervisor. What value would this project add to the Phonathon and how would you execute it? 4. Identify the key responsibilities of a supervisor. What makes a good supervisor? What responsibilities could be added to the supervisor role to make supervisors more effective? 5. What is the difference between doing a job and developing a program? What is your personal vision for the development of the Phonathon? Phonathon Logistics Assistant 1. What does a PLA do? How does this add value to the Phonathon? 2. How do you organize your time? Your work commitments? Your workspace? How have these organizational tactics proven effective? What measures do you take to ensure your organizational techniques keep improving? 3. Describe your outside commitments that you plan to be involved in other than being a member of the PLA team. How can the skills developed in other roles help enhance your work as a PLA? 4. What is the difference between doing a job and developing a program? What is your personal vision for the development of the Phonathon? Caller Trainer 1. Identify and describe five calling tips or suggestions you could offer to new callers.
