Lab 5

Hydrologic Applications of ArcGIS

1. ArcToolBox  Spatial Analyst  Hydrology


2. Start by using Fill to fill any holes in your DEM
a. Click Arctoobox/spatial analyst/ hydrology/ fill
b. Select the DEM as input raster
c. Give appropriate name
3. Create Flow Direction from the filled DEM
a. Click Arctoobox/spatial analyst/ hydrology/flowdirection
b. Select the fill raste data as input raster
c. Give name
4. Create Flow Accumulation from the Flow Direction  name it flowacc
a. Click Arctoobox/spatial analyst/ hydrology/flow accumulation
b. Select the flow direction raster data as input raster
c. Give name flowacc
5. Use the following formula in Map Algebra to create a raster Stream network Spatial Analyst

Tools  Map Algebra  Single Output Map Algebra Type: Con(flowAcc > 100,1)
6. Generate Stream order from the stream raster you created in step 5
a. Click Arctoobox/spatial analyst/ hydrology/stream order
b. Select the stream raster data as input raster
c. Select the flowdirection
d. Give name
7. Convert the stream raster to a vector data using Stream to feature
8. Create watershed / or Basin
a. Click Arctoobox/spatial analyst/ hydrology/watershade /or basin
b. Select the flow direction raster data as input raster
c. Select the pour point data

8. Create watershed
a. Click Arctoobox/spatial analyst/ hydrology/watershade
b. Select the flow direction raster data as input raster
c. Select the pour point data
