Grasshopper Notes MCQs

The document provides an overview of the external features of grasshoppers, detailing the division of their body into three tagmata: head, thorax, and abdomen. It includes short notes on the structure and function of each body part, as well as multiple-choice questions (MCQs) related to these features, covering aspects such as the number of segments in the head and abdomen. Key points include the head's formation from six segments, the thorax's role in locomotion, and the abdomen's flexibility and reproductive functions.

External Features of Grasshopper -

Notes & MCQs

Chapter: External Features of Grasshopper

Short Notes:

1. Body Division (Tagmata):

 The insect body is divided into 3 tagmata:
 - Head: Sensory & feeding
 - Thorax: Locomotion (legs & wings)
 - Abdomen: Digestion & reproduction

2. Head:
 Formed by fusion of 6 segments.
 Major sclerites: Vertex, Frons, Clypeus, Gena, Occiput
 Sutures: Epicranial, Fronto-clypeal, Clypeo-labral, Post-occipital

3. Thorax:
 Composed of 3 segments: Prothorax, Mesothorax, Metathorax
 Each segment has: Tergum (dorsal), Sternum (ventral), Pleuron (lateral)

4. Abdomen:
 Made of 11 segments, flexible
 Has spiracles (for respiration)
 Segments 8–9: Reproductive organs
 Appendages: Cerci, genitalia
