Registering Single Use

Registration requires the registration numbers provided by Customer Service. Visit http://service.esri.com for more information. Single Use and extensions must be registered before use. The registration process involves authorizing ArcGIS Desktop (Single Use) and extensions for use on your computer. A registration wizard is available to assist you in completing and submitting your registration information to ESRI. During the installation, you will be asked if you want to register now or later.
Registering later

To register later, you can access the Registration Wizard from the Start > Programs > ArcGIS > Desktop Administrator shortcut. Select the 'Register Single Use and Extensions' folder and click on the Register Now button. See The ArcGIS Desktop Administrator for more information on other features of this utility.

If you are registering your single use software for the first time, choose the first registration option, 'I have installed and need to register the software'. If you have previously registered your single use software and need to register additional extensions or wish to evaluate extensions, choose the second registration option, 'I have already registered the software and need to register additional ArcGIS extensions'. If you have already registered and received an authorization file from ESRI, choose the third option 'I have received an authorization file from ESRI and am now ready to finish the registration process'. The registration process can be completed by choosing one of the several methods available to obtain an authorization file.

The Desktop Administrator


The ArcGIS Desktop Administrator helps you administer your ArcGIS Desktop and provides valuable information about your installation. With it, you can perform tasks such as: Switch your software product between ArcInfo, ArcEditor, and ArcView (floating) or Single Use ArcView or ArcEditor. Change the License Manager, which is where you check out a license for the applications. View the available licenses. The ArcGIS Desktop Administrator can be accessed after installing by selecting Start > Programs > ArcGIS > Desktop Administrator.

Select 'ArcGIS Desktop (your computer name)' to view information about your installation and ArcGIS configuration. This information may be valuable when troubleshooting an installation or providing details for support. Select 'Register Single Use and Extensions' to register ArcGIS Desktop and extensions. You can also use the registration wizard to register an extension for an evaluation trial period. See How to Register ArcGIS Desktop Single Use for more information on registering ArcGIS Desktop and extensions. Select 'Availability' to display the installation and registration

status of ArcEditor and extensions.

In addition to the options available for ArcEditor (Single Use), the Desktop Administrator allows you to change between ArcInfo, ArcEditor and ArcView (floating) and ArcEditor (Single Use). Select 'Software Product' to switch between the ArcGIS floating products of ArcInfo Desktop, ArcEditor and ArcView or ArcEditor(Single Use). Note: Although the ability to switch between ArcGIS Deskstop Concurrent Use and Single Use products is enabled when you install, you must purchase each product type individually to use it. Select 'License Manager' to change the license manager. Click Change and type the name of the new license manager or click browse to open Network Neighborhood and browse to the license manager machine.

Note

Although you can switch the product type between ArcInfo, ArcEditor or ArcView available for the applications to open and function. Check on Availability to view Select 'Availability' to see if a license is available for an ArcGIS software product or extension. It also includes information about the licenses such as the time out date.
