Reflection Paper
In the podcast that I listened to titled “How to Grow Your Self Awareness: The Key to
Understanding Yourself,” it defined self-awareness as learning who you are. It also explained how to
distinguish self-awareness from self-consciousness. It explains self-consciousness as having extensive self-
awareness, which means that a person is conscious of how people view them because they are
overthinking, maybe because they are aware of their actions. While listening, I have concluded that self-
awareness is not something that individuals acquire since they were born. It is a behavior that requires
reflective practices just like what the speaker of the podcast has been saying, because developing this
kind of behavior is through knowing your emotions and what is the cause why you are feeling this way.
Through this, an individual is developing self-awareness.
As a person who practices journaling in a sense of writing down what I am feeling, it can be anger,
joy, anxiety, sadness, jealousy. In this way, I can figure out the reason those emotions arise in myself.
Figuring out those emotions helps me to self-reflect because by then I know myself. As I am paying
attention to my thoughts, I was able to know the trigger why I felt those emotions, thus the reason. Asking
yourself is one method of developing self-awareness that I practice but only on mind but a lot of times in
my dump account as a part of the generation Z having dump account helps us to release what are we
feeling inside that we cannot bring ourselves to tell anyone. Personally, as I answered those questions, I
became aware of the reason I felt those feelings.
Listening to this podcast was a major help for me to improve my self-awareness. The topic was
interesting enough for me to feel a sense of happiness because learning new while listening to the podcast
for instance, challenging my beliefs whether I will stand by what beliefs I have believed in or let go of that
belief because I became self-aware. In addition to that, there was a line that caught my attention and that
is “Being interested in yourself is the way of becoming self-aware", because being curious about yourself
is a key to learning yourself and improving yourself.
To summarize the whole paper, the podcast that I listened to was knowledgeable and was a great
podcast in terms of listening from others and actually learning from then on how can I improve myself,
because I believe that all of us are a work in progress and becoming self-aware is one of the many ways
of becoming the better version of myself.
