AUSTRALIA AT WAR
LEARNING INTENTION: to gain knowledge and an understanding of a conflict that Australia has been involved in since WW1 to understand the process of planning and organising as an individual and in a group SUCCESS CRITERIA: to understand and believe in the material presented both theoretically and verbally to work to set time frames to plan, investigate and present work individually to reach the group goal to successfully present the material both in written form and as a verbal presentation to the class PREPARATION INSTRUCTIONS 1. You will organise to work in a group of 3 students 2. Selections of wars will be placed in a hat if more than one team wants to investigate the topic and your group leader will select a conflict to investigate. 3. You will start the investigation on Wednesday 21st March. You will have 23/3, 26/3, 28/3, 30/3 (end of Term 1) and (start of Term 2) 16/4, 18/4 and 20/4 to complete the written presentation. 4. Your written presentation is due on Monday 23rd April. You may use Monday to finalise your written presentation but it will mean that you have one less day to organise your class presentation (Power Point) a. However, if you complete the first part of your assignment earlier, you may start your Power Point presentation and have time to practise and refine your class presentation. 5. You will have the week of 23/4. 25/4 and 27/4 to complete your Power Point. 6. Class presentations will begin on Monday 30th April. These will again be selected by a draw of positions. 7. Details of the Class Presentation will be given to you next week but the information you include in your written presentation will be able to be used in your class presentation. No new information will need to be added but you may need to think about how is the most interesting way to present this to the class? What does this Assignment require to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of a conflict? This is both an individual and a group assignment. There are eight (8) elements which you need to include in the written presentation Five (5) can be organised between the group members and the three (3) individual elements will be done separately by each team member. You will be given an individual score for your specific area of the assignment and a group score for the other elements of the presentation as well as how you have worked together as a team.

THE ASSIGNMENT This may be presented for correction in any format: Poster, Word Document, Power Point, Video Presentation or Web Page just be wary of the time frame to complete the assignment. Items you MUST include in your assignment: 1. 2. 3. 4. In depth studies (sections 5, 6 and 7) one will be done by each individual in the team. Teams need to decide who will do what in-depth study. 5. General discussion of the war being studied. a. Who was involved in the conflict? (countries involved explain why they were involved and what was Australias involvement / how did this affect Australia?) b. Why did this war begin? c. Where did this war take place? d. What kind of weaponary, uniform, rations were supplied to the soldiers etc. e. Were all areas of the defence force involved? army, navy and airforce. How were they involved? f. What dates did the war start and when did it finish? How did it finish? Explain why the war ended. 6. In-depth study of a Notable Australian Person involved in that war. a. Who were they? b. What is their service record? When and where did they serve? c. What were they honoured / best known for? Explain and describe their involvement. d. What decorations / medals did they earn? What rank did they achieve? e. Picture of the person 7. In-depth study of a major conflict in that war. a. Who was involved in the conflict? b. What was the outcome of the conflict? c. When did this conflict take place? d. Where did this conflict occur? e. What were the casualties of the conflict? Prisoners / dead / injured. 8.
