WEEK 1 – What is a Minibeast?

Activities:
o Nature walk (Reggio): Observe and draw any bugs found near school.
o "Bug Hunt" Bingo: Listening/speaking game with flashcards.
o Collaborative mind map on big poster paper or interactive board.
Reggio inspiration: Children share their bug drawings in a circle, dictating
simple labels (“It has wings,” “It is red”).
WEEK 2 – Bug Body Parts & Movement
TBL Task: Design your own bug using clay or recycled materials.
Language focus: Parts of the body (head, legs, wings, antennae…), verbs
(crawl, fly, jump, walk), "It has…", "It can…"
Activities:
o Label a bug diagram (cut and paste).
o Simon Says with bug movements.
o Art center: Create your bug + write 3 facts (It has…, It can…)
Reggio inspiration: Set up a “Bug Atelier” with natural materials and mirrors.
WEEK 3 – Bug Habitats
TBL Task: Make a shoebox habitat for a chosen bug.
Language focus: Prepositions of place, habitats (garden, soil, tree, water,
grass…), "It lives in/on/under…"
Activities:
o Match bugs to habitats (cut-outs and pictures).
o Shoebox project: collaborative or individual.
o Writing labels: “My bug lives in a tree. It likes flowers.”
Reggio inspiration: Inquiry corner with leaves, soil, branches for sensory
exploration.
WEEK 4 – What do bugs eat? Bug life cycles
TBL Task: Create a life cycle wheel for a butterfly or another minibeast.
Language focus: Food (leaves, nectar, plants…), life cycle stages (egg, larva,
pupa, adult), "It eats…", "It grows into…"
Activities:
o Story: The Very Hungry Caterpillar (interactive retelling).
o Craft: Life cycle spinner or flipbook.
o Guessing game: "I eat leaves. I fly. Who am I?"
Reggio inspiration: Set up a documentation wall showing each student’s bug
evolution project.
WEEK 5 – Helpful and Harmful Bugs
TBL Task: Conduct a class survey: “Do you like bees? Why?”
Language focus: Likes/dislikes, adjectives (helpful, dangerous, cute, scary…),
simple opinions.
Activities:
o Read a simple text or video on bees/pollination.
o Roleplay: “I am a bee. I help flowers.”
o Survey chart: “5 students like ants. 3 students don’t like spiders.”
Reggio inspiration: Children prepare a “Bug Poster Gallery” with persuasive
phrases: “Love Bees!”, “Worms are friends!”
WEEK 6 – The Minibeast Museum (Final Project Week)
PBL Product: Create and present a “Minibeast Museum” or “Insect Expo” with
stations for each bug.
Language focus: Presenting information: “This is a butterfly. It can fly. It lives
in the garden.”
Activities:
o Rehearsal of mini-presentations.
o Set up museum: posters, clay models, shoebox habitats, life cycles.
o Family visit or peer class walk-through (Reggio exhibition-style).
Assessment:
o Peer + teacher feedback on presentations.
o Checklists for vocabulary use, clarity, effort.
