What is a disaster management ?

The Organisation and management of resources and responsibilities for dealing with all
humanitarians aspectage is of emergencies, in particular preparedness , response and recovery in
order to lessen the impact of the disasters is called “DISASTER MANAGMENT”

DISASTER: A Disaster is a sudden or unexpected event that causes widespread


disruption to a community or society.Disaster can be caused by natural or man made and
technological hazards.

SOME EXAMPLES OF DISASTERS ARE:


Earthquakes,Hurricanes,Floods,Tsunami,landslides,Biological Disasters,Terrorist Attacks.

THE EFFECTS OF DISASTER INCLUDE:

 Human losses
 Material losses
 Economic losses
 Death
 Injuries
 Disease
 Damage to sources of Livelihood

TYPES OF DISATERS:

Natural Disaster
A natural disaster is a major adverse event resulting from natural
processes of the earth; examples like floods,hurricanes,tornadoes,volcanic
eruptions ,earthquakes,tsunamis,storms and other geological disaster.

Certain types of natural disaster are more likely to occur in particular parts
of the world . For an instance: People near coastaline,lakes and rivers are
morely likely to get prone as soon as disaster occurred.
FOR AN EXAMPLE: In vulnerable area such as Nepal during the 2015
earthquake an adverse event can have disastrous consequences and leave
lasting damage which can take many years to overcome

HUMAN INDUCED DISASTER


Human induced disaster is also known as man made disaster. Man Made
Disaster have an element of human intent,negligence, or error involving a
failure of a man made system.such man made disaster are crime,arson,civil
disorder,terrorism,war,cyber attacks etc.

PHASES OF DISASTER MANAGEMENT


 MITIGATION : Preventive measures to reduce the effects of future
disasters
 PREPARDENESS: Measures to build the ability to manage the
impact of hazards
 RESPONSE: Actions to reduce the adverse effects of a disaster
during and immediately after it happens
 RECOVERY: Actions to restore the affected ares to pre-disaster
conditions.
