April 2012
FROM THE PASTORS DESK
Dear Brothers and Sisters, Members and Friends of the Hill United Presbyterian Church: The heart of the good news of the Christian faith is that Great-Getting-Up Day when Jesus rose from death! Death could not overcome nor overwhelm Jesus; instead, life in Jesus overcame and overwhelmed death and the grave! That is what we call eternal life based on the resurrection faith through our Savior and Lord Jesus Christ. St. Paul put it this way in I Corinthians 15: Now if Christ is preached as raised from the dead, how can some of you say that there is no resurrection of the dead?... If Christ has not been raised, then our preaching is in vain and your faith is in vain...But in fact Christ has been raised from the dead...For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ shall all be made alive Christ the first fruits, then at His coming, those who belong to Christ. Please join us for Holy Week and the GreatGetting-Up Day of Easter, the very heart of the faith through our Lord Jesus Christ! * * * * * * Please remember our Centennial Celebration Dinner on Saturday, May 5, 2012 at Tanglewood Center, with social hour beginning at 4:30 P.M. and the dinner at 6:00 P.M. On Sunday, May 6, 2012, our Centennial Service of Worship, followed by fellowship time, will take place. Yours in the Easter faith and for Living in His Presence: Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow, Pastor Clark Rev. Clark Sawyer

The Book of Psalms is often understood as a book of devotion to God. One of the main causes the Book focuses on is the worship of God. Psalm 148 calls on all created things to praise the Lord: all things in heaven; all animals, all plants and objects on earth; all people are summoned to join in the chorus of praise as well. See you at worship! Please invite and bring a friend! Please come and join us for Holy Week: Palm Sunday Worship Service on Palm Sunday, April 1st with the Chancel Choir singing. Maundy Thursday Service at 7:30 P.M. on April 4th with Lords Supper, Instrumental Ensemble and Chancel Choir singing. ONE GREAT HOUR OF SHARING Offering will be received during the Lenten season
More than sixty years ago, in response to the devastation of World War II, a Saturday evening nationwide broadcast asked Americans to give generously the next morning in their churches. A remarkable variety of national leaders and celebrities gave their efforts to the broadcast. More than seventy-five thousand churches responded. So was born The One Great Hour of Sharing. Today, our Presbyterian Church USA uses its offering gifts roughly divided into thirds. Each of these three programsSelf-development of People, Presbyterian Disaster Assistance and the Presbyterian Hunger programreceives 32% of the offering; the remaining 4% goes to the Presbyterian Hunger Program for its work on homelessness and affordable housing. The Presbyterian Church USA offering has received eight to eleven million dollars a year for at least the past twenty years. Our goal at Hill Church this year is $2,100.00. Please pray about whether God wants you to give to this offering. If you are led to give, please give generously. Envelopes will be in the bulletins at our worship services into the celebration of Holy Week and Easter. Blessings to you!

GHANA MISSION TASK FORCE NEWS The task force is pleased to present another letter from one of our grateful Ghanaian students. I am Benedicta Elinam Agbokey, a 19 year old final year student of Ebenezer Senior High in Accra, Ghana. I am one of your beneficiaries who is currently enjoying from the scholarships you and your team granted all the females who are in the senior high school and are members of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church in Ghana. I am a General Art student whose electives are Government, Christian Religious Studies, French and Literature. I am currently preparing for my final examination (West Africa Secondary School Certificate Examination) which will pave a way for me to enter and further my education in the University. I have already written the private WASSCE in which I performed pretty good. In it I had English-B, Social Studies-B, Government -B, Christian Religious Studies-B, Literature-B, French-C, Science-C and Mathematics-D. My aim is to become a journalist in the future that is why I have decided to seek admission from the Ghana Institute of Journalism (GIJ) after I get the required grades. My exams will actually commence on the 29th of March and end on the 8th of May this year. I will therefore like to use this opportunity to thank you and all those who helped you in making this scholarship project a success. I say God richly bless and honour you. May His goodness and favour never depart from you. I will also like to know if the scholarship also takes care of our University education. I will be very glad if the answer is positive because most of us are wondering where we will get assistance from to further our education to the point where we will be able to fit into the field of work as well as meet the challenging demands of work after we graduate from senior high. Moreover, the university forms are already out and for me personally I do not know where to get financial assistance to purchase the forms because I live with my mother who is singlehandedly trying so much to see myself and my elder sister through school. I therefore wish to plead and ask if I can be granted any financial assistance to purchase the university forms. The GIJ forms actually costs GH85(Eighty-five cedis) but I will like to buy another form from the University of Cape Coast in the Central Region of Ghana which costs the same as that of GIJ. Therefore I will need estimatedly GH170 (One Hundred and seventy cedis) for both forms. I hope my request will fall on kind hearts. Once again, I say thank you for all the goodness you have shown my colleagues and I and it is our prayer that the good Lord will touch your heart so that we the less privileged ones will receive more of your goodness and favour. Thank You. Benedicta Agbokey from E.P Church, Odorkor Official Town.(Accra-Ghana) ****************************************************************************** Our task force continues to request your continuing prayers for our Christian friends in the Bubiashie District churches.
