Vote #7 - Marisol Morales

I am the mother of a second grader at Inter-American and I currently serve as a Parent Representative on the Local School Council. I was first appointed to the position in October 2009 following a vacancy and then elected in 2010. I enjoy serving on the LSC and being an active member of the Inter-American community. Before serving on the Inter-American LSC I served as a Community Representative for a term at Robert Clemente Community Academy. I am a community activist in Humboldt Park and sit on several boards and advisory groups such as the Puerto Rican Agenda, Josephinum Academy, and the YMCAs Black and Latino Achievers Program. I also sit on two state commissions, the Illinois Latino Family Commission and the Commission on the Elimination of Poverty. I am the Associate Director for the Steans Center for Community- based Service Learning at DePaul University. I have been in the field of education for the last fifteen years specifically working with alternative education and higher education. If elected I hope to continue to create space for parents to voice their concerns and hopes for improving and moving the school forward. I am an educator, advocate and activist and wish to continue to bring that energy to serving on the Local School Council at Inter-American. Soy mama de un nio en Segundo grado de la Inter-Americana y actualmente sirvo como padre representante en el concilio. Fui nombrada a esa posicin en octubre de 2009 y elegida en 2010. Me gusta servir en el concilio y ser una miembra activa de la comunidad de padres de la Inter- Americana. Antes de servir en el concilio de Inter-Americana fui representante de comunidad en el concilio escolar de la secundaria Roberto Clemente Community Academy. Soy una activista comunitaria en Humboldt Park y soy parte de varias juntas como La Agenda Puertorriquea, Josephinum Academy, y el programa del YMCAs Black and Latino Achievers. Tambin soy comisionada en dos comisiones estatales, La Comisin de Familias Latinas de Illinois y La Comisin para la eliminacin de la pobreza. He estado en la rea de educacin por los ltimos 15 aos especficamente con educacin alternativa y universitaria. Si soy elegida quiero continuar crear un espacio para la voz de los padres en Education/Educacin termino de sus dudas y esperanzas para Community/Comunidad mejorar la escuela y mover la escuela Activism/Activismo adelante. Soy educadora y activista y espero continuar a traer energa al Inter-Americana School concilio escolar de la Inter-Americana.
