The Great Flood The Great Flood has no exact date and is commonly considered a myth.

However priests many centuries looked through the bible and looked at the Genealogies, and used them to get an estimated of around 5000BC when the flood occurred. The theme is widespread among many cultures and is best known as Noahs flood in the Quran and The Book of Genesis and The Great Flood from Epic of Gilgamesh. The Great Flood is a flood that was supposed to be sent by a great deity, sent to destroy mankinds civilisation as an act of divine retribution. The Great Flood could have been a local flood that had been wrongly recorded turning the local flood into mythical Great Flood. The most wide known theory of the Great Flood is a flood that was sent by God to destroy mankind. God seeing the wickedness of man was saddened by his creation and resolves it by sending the Great Flood. Seeing Noah as the only righteous man of his generation, commands him to be build an Ark. When every animal is inside the art, God sends the flood which rises until all the mountains are covered and all life ceases. This is stated in the ancient texts of The Book of Genesis (Chapters 69) and Quran (Surah HUD) stating that, God sent the Great Flood. This written evidence is reliable as the worlds 3 three major religions, Judaism, Christianity and Islam claim that the event occurred, however there is very little up to date archaeological evidence to support this claim. In 2009 there has been an archaeological find at Mount Ararat where the ark could possibly be. According to Gen 8:4 The Ark resented n the seventh, on the seventeenth day of the month upon the mountains of Ararat. This is yet to be confirmed as radiocarbon dating of the ark is only about 4800 years old, making it very young. Radio carbon dating is sometimes considered not considered accurate sometimes and the expedition who found the remains of the ark are 99.9% sure its Noahs Ark. The Gilgamesh flood myth is the deluge story in the Epic of Gilgamesh, which is a series of Sumerian Legends. It is located on tablet XI in the standard version of the Epic of Gilgamesh. The tablets were found by Hormuzd Rassam in 1853 and are known as the worlds oldest literature. They date back from around 2000BC 2150BC and perhaps are the earliest forms of textual evidence for the Great Flood. The God Ea leaked information about the Gods plans to bring a flood to Utnapishtim, who was commanded to build a boat and bring every animal he had and his wife. The storm lasted for 7 nights and 6 days. The tablet shows similarities with the Bible and the Quran. This being the most earliest textual evidence for the Great Flood makes it a very reliable source as it indicates that there may have been a great flood before its time. The Black Sea Deluge Theory, discovered by Robert Ballad, indicates that there was a great rise in the level of the Black Sea around 5600BC, due to waters from melting glaciers in the Mediterranean Sea which forced its way through the Bosporus Strait (which separates the black Sea and Mediterranean) into what we call today as the Black Sea. It started to submerge an inland freshwater lake that was originally in the Black Seas place eventually turning it into a gigantic saltwater sea, which we call today as the Black Sea. Radiocarbon dating of Freshwater Mollusc remains indicate that there were freshwater tolerant creatures living around 7500 years ago in the Black Sea, before something caused them to perish, the dates matches the time given by priests around 5000BC. Robert Ballad states that this is what remains of Noahs Flood, however the flood was universal not in one area, so there would have to be other flood remains. Although the Black Sea Flood does not fit with the Great flood, the point is that the myth may have originated from the

real event, a local flood. The real event the Black Sea Deluge, an event that was exaggerated as it was passed from word of mouth before being written down. The point that the myth may have originated from the real event, greatly discourages religious texts such as the Bible and Quran. In the bible it states that all scriptures is given by the inspiration of god, (2 Tim 3:16). To say that Noahs Flood was anything but it says points a finger at God saying God is a liar. The Black Sea Deluge Theory remains a theory to this day because scholars in the scientific and religious community hold very different ideas and most suggest that there are too many inconsistencies for this to be the Great Biblical Flood. The Great Flood is used as a term that is related to the destruction of mankind, a punishment that was sent by a deity. Textual evidence for this is stated in the Quran, The Book of the Genesis and the Epic of Gilgamesh. However written texts are only considered secondary sources when recounting the tale of the Great Flood if it occurred, as there were no recordings until many centuries later. Texts are sometimes exaggerated in history and this theory has very little archaeological evidence to support it. The Black Sea Deluge seems to be the more reasonable explanation for The Great Flood, and seems like the most likely great flood to occur in that time period; It occurred before any of the textual evidence and its date matches priests estimate of the time of The Great Flood. The Great Flood is a mystery that is yet to be solved or even solved.
