SIPROTEC
SIPROTEC is a trade name used by Siemens to identify a group of Siemens multifunction protection relays, such as the 7SJ61, 7SJ62, 7SJ63 and 7VK61. Multifunction protection relays provide the basic protection required in power systems, such as phase and ground overcurrent protection on feeder circuits, motors, and transformers. However, since they are microprocessor based, they can also communicate what is happening to the equipment they are protecting. Examples of information they can communicate to the ACCESS power monitoring system include: protective element status, trip diagnostics, and integrated metering of the power at its input. SIPROTEC relay features are integrated into the ACCESS single-line animation, waveform support, and alarm handling. SIPROTEC relays have integrated PLC logic and support multiple protocols. DIGSI is a software package available for SIPROTEC which supports documentation, archiving of relay data, and advanced diagnostics. All automatic

transfer, circuit breaker interlocking and lockout functions are accomplished through protective relays within the local digital network.

For many years, Siemens has led the development of protection technology. In 1985, they were the first to manufacture a range of fully numerical relays with standardised communication interfaces and more recently were the first to implement the IEC 61850 standard and second is DIGSI 4 That is a Siemens tool for setting protective relays using MS Windows, commissioning and operating of all SIPROTEC protective relays, regardless of version. Self-monitoring feature-rich increased operational reliability Programmable easy to implement complex schemes with flexibility for future changes Around the world, almost one million SIPROTEC relays ensure first-class performance in generation and on transmission and distribution networks at all voltage levels. SIPROTEC 4 relays support a broad range of communication protocols, such as; IEC 60870-5103, DNP3, MODBUS, PROFIBUS and the international standard IEC 61850.

IEC 61850
IEC 61850 is the communication standard for interconnecting the devices at the bay and station control levels on the basis of Ethernet. IEC 61850 supports the direct exchange of data between IEDs, thus enabling switching interlocks across bays independently of the station control unit,

IEC 61850 is an open protocol that supports communication for monitoring, control and protection functions, it offers significant advantages for interfacing among circuit breakers within a lineup as well as other devices throughout the power distribution system. Using IEC 61850 communication protocol, all control, monitoring and protection functions are accomplished through a redundant fiber-optic connection(flexible glass material used to transmit data) between protective relays and bay controllers. This communications capability reduces the need for much of the control wiring necessary to implement and change complex schemes, resulting in reduced field testing and commissioning time.

Continuous function chart (CFC) Programming

CFC is the diagrammatic language for the specification of mixed protective relays and other discrete continuous embedded systems. CFC permits the conversion of technological specifications into executable automation programs OR CFC for creating new functionality or for changing the predefined interlock conditions

GOOSE
is the abbreviation for generic object-oriented substation events and is the high-speed data transmission that bypasses normal communication.
