SECTION -1
PLAN OF EXAMINATION
1. The competitive examination comprises two Successive
stages.
(i) Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination (Objective
Type) for the selection of candidates for the Main
Examination, and
(ii) Civil Services Main Examination (Written and
Interview) for the selection of candidates for the
various Services and posts.
2. The Preliminary Examination will consist of two papers
of Objective Type (multiple choice questions) and carry
a maximum of 400 Marks in the subjects set out in subsection (A) of Section II. This examination is meant to
serve as a screening test only, the marks obtained in
the Preliminary Examination by the candidates who are
declared qualified for admission to the Main
Examination will not be counted for determining their
final order of merit. The number of candidates to be
admitted to the main Examination will be about twelve
to thirteen times the total approximate number of
vacancies to be filled in the year in the various Services
and posts. Only those candidates who are aclared by
the Commission to have qualified in the Preliminary
Examination in a year will be eligible for admission to
the Main Examination of that year provided they are
otherwise eligible for admission to Main Examination.
3. The Main Examination will consist of a written
examination and an interview test. The written
examination will consist of 9 papers of conventional
essay type, in the subjects set out in sub-section (B)
of Section II. Also see note (ii) under para 1 of section
II (B).

A. Preliminary Examination
The Examination shall comprise two compulsory papers
of 200 marks each.
NOTE (i) Both the question papers will be of the objective
type (multiple choice questions).
(ii) The question papers will be set both in Hindi and
English. However, questions relating to English Language
Comprehension skills of Class X level will be tested
through passages from English Language only without
providing Hindi translation thereof in the question paper.
(iii) Details of the syllabi are indicated in Part A of Section III.
(iv) Each paper will be of two hours duration. Blind
candidates will however, be allowed an extra time of twenty
minutes at each paper.

General Instructions (Preliminary as well as Main


Examination) :
Candidates must write the papers in their own hand. In
no circumstances will they be allowed the help of a scribe to
write the answers for them, However, blind candidates will
be allowed to write the examination with the help of a scribe.
Interview Test :
The candidate will be interviewed by a Board who
will have before them a record of this career. He will be asked
questions on matters of general interest. The object of the
interview is to assess the personal suitability of the candidate
for a career in public service by a Board of competent an
unbiased observers. The test is intended to judge the mental
caliber of a candidate. In broad terms this is really an
assessment of not only his intellectual qualities but also
social traits and his interest incurrent affairs. Some of the
qualities to be judged are mental alertness, critical powers of
assimilation, clear and logical exposition, balance or
judgement, variety and depth of interest, ability for social
cohesion and leadership, intellectual and morale integrity.

I & II above, in any one of the languages included in
the Eighth schedule to The Constitution or in English.
(v) Candidates exercising the option to answer papers III
to IX in any one of the languages included in the Eighth
Schedule to the Constitution may, if they so desire,
give English version within brackets of only the
description to the of the technical terms, if any in
addition to the version in the language opted by them,
Candidates should, however note that if they misuse
the above rule, a deduction will be made on this account
from the total marks otherwise accruing to them and in
extreme cases, their script(s) will not be valued for being
in an unauthorised medium.
(vi) The question papers other than the Language Papers
will be set both in Hindi and English.

Paper II- (200 marks) Duration: Two hours

INSTRUCTIONS TO THE CANDIDATES FOR
FILLING ONLINE APPLICATIONS
Candidates may apply Online using the website http://
www.upsconline.nic.in/ Salient features of the system of
Online Application Form are given hereunder :
Detailed instructions for filling up online applications
are available on the above mentioned website.
Candidates will be required to complete the Online
Application Form containing two stages viz. Part-I and PartII as per the instructions available in the above mentioned
site through drop down menus.
The candidates applying Online are required to pay a
reduced fee of Rs. 50/- (Rupees Fifty only) (excepting
Female/SC/ST/PH candidates who are exempted from
payment of fee) either by remitting the money in any branch
of SBI by cash, or by using net banking facility of SBI or by
using any Visa/ Master Credit/Debit Card.
Before starting filling up of online application, a
candidate must have his photograph and signature duly
scanned in the .png or .jpg format in such a manner that
each file size should not exceed 40KB each.
The Online applications (Part I and II) can be filled up
5th March, 2012 till 11.59 p.m. after which link will be
disabled.
Candidates wanting to apply online are strongly
advised to do so well in time without waiting for last

CGPA or Ail India and allied services officers, officers in |
scale II of Nationalized Banks & officers of equivalent rank
of PSUs can apply directly. Candidates who fulfil the
required eligibility criteria as above and do not have any of
the above qualifying test scores, but have five years
experience (post their respective eligible degree) shall be
caiied for the interna! test and those who qualify in the
internal test will be called for GD & PI.

Group Discussion & interview :


GD and Interview for short-listed candidates will be held
at IlFM, Bhopal during April/May 2012.

Financial Assistance :
Each student would be given a monthly fellowship of Rs.
12,000/- in first and second year; Rs. 14,000/- in third and
fourth year and for extended one year (if applicable) during
the program.

Interested candidates are required to submit their
applications In the prescribed application form with all
supporting documents mentioned in the form. Application
form and details about the programme are available at the
website http://www.iifm.ac.in/fpm or can be obtained in
person or by post by sending a request along with bank
draft of Rs. 500/-. Completed application \ form
(accompanied by a Demand Draft of Rs. 500/- for forms
downloaded from website) in favour of Director IlFM,
payable at Bhopal, should be sent to Chairperson, FPM
Admissions, Indian Institute of Forest Management, Nehru
Nagar, Bhopal 462003, M.P. so as to reach IlFM latest by
2nd April 2012
