Introduction:
The University of Manchester is the largest single-site university in the United Kingdom and with some of the highest quality teaching and research and broadest spread of academic subjects is able to compete with some of the best universities in the world. The University of Manchester has continued to adapt to the needs of students by investing in world class facilities for teaching, learning, research and recreation. The University of Manchester Students Union (UMSU) is a two-site operation and has a population of 36,000 undergraduate and postgraduate students. All students are required to register for their courses during the first week of term commonly known as Welcome Week. The Manchester Academy is located on the busy Oxford Road Corridor and is next to the main Students Union building. The venue underwent a major refurbishment programme in 2007 at a cost of 3.5 million to produce a model of environmental sustainability previously unheard of in the entertainment and music venue market. The venue is fully accessible to both exhibitors and visitors. The focus of Welcome Week in terms of direct contact with students comes in the first week at Student Fair which as in previous years will be held in the Manchester Academy. In terms of both new and returning students, Welcome Week at UMSU presents an unparalleled marketing opportunity. All students coming to university for the first time, often from outside the Manchester area, are keen to enter the student life. These fresh faces present the ideal chance to build the foundation for long lasting brand loyalty, be it to a product, place or event.

Student Fair Commercial Stall Packages:


There are two types of stall packages available for commercial exhibitors at the Student Fair, Premium and Standard. The difference between the two types of stall is location and services available to the stall. All of the Premium stalls are located around the edge of the room and use the prefix PR on the floor plan. The Standard stalls are located on one row to the right as you look at the floorplan, these stalls have the prefix ST In total there are twenty five Premium and ten Standard stalls available on each day of the Student Fair.

Student Fair Charity Stall Packages:


The University of Manchester Students Union is keen to support both local and national charities at Student Fair 2012 by offering them a specially discounted rate on those stalls with the prefix CH shown on the floorplan. There are only a maximum of six stalls available for each day with individual charities only able to book for one day in order to allow as many organisations as possible access the Student Fair at a discounted rate. These stalls will be allocated on a strictly first come first served basis so early booking is advisable.

Welcome Week Mailout / Registration Inserts:


Student Mailout: The University of Manchester Students Union mails a Student Pack to around 7,000 new students approximately three weeks before the start of the academic year. The pack contains the Welcome Handbook along with other vital information for new students. The filling of these packs is closely supervised to ensure the highest quality standard for every pack. A small number of commercial inserts are added to this pack each year. As with the Welcome Handbook this early contact guarantees immediate impact and high levels of interest. Demand for this type of advertising is high and the number of inserts into the pack is strictly limited.

Student Registration Pack:


The Student Registration Pack is distributed by hand at the start of Welcome Week and contains student related information and samples. Leaflet Insert Into Registration Pack 100.00 (plus vat) per 1,000

Promotional Items: Promotional items and samples can be placed in the Registration Packs free of charge if those items are considered suitable and appropriate by the Students Union The University of Manchester Students Union reserves the right not to insert material which in their opinion may cause offence or does not agree with the ethos of the Students Union. In such cases the Students Union will in no way be liable for any costs or refunds

Welcome Week On Campus Advertising:


Poster Campaign:
Through placing posters in high traffic areas the Students Union is able to offer you a unique marketing opportunity. Posters are distributed around both North and South Campus on a weekly basis. The publicity is placed on official notice boards, in frames and in some areas lockable cabinets around the Students Union. The minimum length of campaign is seven days and the maximum number of poster sites at any one time is twenty. The maximum size of poster is A3 portrait. Digital Screen Advertising Booking Form 2012:


Digital Screens:
Our digital screens are located in bar, retail and pubic areas within the Students Union. We are able to offer the facility to show both static and moving images shown on an average of ten to fifteen times per hour per screen whilst the building and facilities are open up to sixteen hours a day seven days a week. We are able to run specific campaigns on specific sets of screens in the three areas depending on your product/service. We estimate footfall through the building to be around 6,000 visitors per day during term time although during Welcome Week itself this figure can be nearer 15,000 per day.

Student Direct Mancunion:


Newspaper, Website and Annual Guide The Mancunion produces an official weekly newspaper, the official website and an official annual guide titled Uncovered for the Students Unions of Manchester, Salford and Bolton Universities. Each week during term-time we distribute 15-20,000 copies of The Mancunion throughout campuses, Student Unions, shops, libraries and bars. It is the official newspaper for the three universities and gives advertisers unrivalled access to this massive students population of 80,000. Each week the paper covers a wide range of news and lifestyle issues, on a local, national and international level, all produced and written by students for students. This unique selling point has kept the newspaper in operation for over 10 years, and is indeed branching out to help provide students with information about their surroundings in the Uncovered annual guide. Uncovered serves as a guide to the unknown of Manchester, Salford and Bolton, the bars, clubs, shops and scenery that can make the student experience that little bit more special. This guide is handed out annually at Welcome Week. Each year we distribute 15,000 copies mainly to new students. Terms & Conditions of Booking 2012


1. Full payment for all Welcome Week marketing activity must be paid in full either 28 days after the invoice date or
no later than 12/08/11 whichever date comes first. All bookings made after this date must be paid for in full at the time of booking. Failure to make payment will result in your booking being cancelled without further notice and the University of Manchester Students Union shall in no way be liable for any costs incurred resulting from the cancelation.

11. All electrical fittings, wiring and appliances must be constructed and maintained in safe condition. Particular
attention must be paid to temporary wiring and the need not to overload electrical sockets. All exhibitor electrical equipment must have appropriate PAT testing certification.

12. The use of compressed gas cylinders (e.g. CO2 or LPG) or of other explosive or highly inflammable substances is
not permitted.

2. All cancelled Welcome Week marketing activity will be invoiced at 50% of total amount payable if cancelled after
Tuesday 16th August 2011 but before Tuesday 6th September 2011. All bookings cancelled after this date will be payable in full.

13. Loose packaging must be removed once exhibition stands have been assembled. The packaging must be deposited in the designated area notified on the day. 14. Exhibitors should make sure that all exhibition materials such as fabric panels and exhibition stands are manufactured from fire retardant materials or have been treated so as to provide a fire retardant surface finish. 15. The University of Manchester Students Union operates a strict no smoking policy in all its buildings and venues.

3. All Student Fair prices include one 1200mm x 600mm trestle table, two chairs and up to a maximum of four exhibitor passes. Platinum Stall bookings are able to request a 13amp power supply and access to Wi-Fi however, these must be requested at the time of booking and are subject to availability. All measurements are approximate. 4. Persons attending the Student Fair will at all times will behave in a responsible manner whilst on the University
Campus, not inconvenience in any way either the organisers of the Welcome Fair or other exhibitors , comply with the constitution of the University of Manchester Students Union (copies available on request) Failure to do so may result in removal from part or all of your Welcome Week marketing activity without prior notice or recompense.

16. Exhibitors must also indemnify the University of Manchester Students Union of all costs, claims and liabilities
sustained by any persons or to any property as a result of their actions.

5. Exhibitors and their staff/representatives must conform to the accepted safety standards of the day. All
equipment must conform to the relevant legislation, regulations, British or EEC standards as appropriate.

17. The University of Manchester Students Union cannot accept advance deliveries of items for Student Fair exhibitors 18. The playing of music or use of amplified sound equipment of any kind is not allowed

6. Exhibitors are required to provide information on all displays involving moving equipment before the University
of Manchester will accept your booking. Failure to provide such information may result in the non-use of the equipment for the duration of the Student Fair.

19. The distribution of alcohol is not allowed 20. Exhibitors exhibit entirely at their own risk, the University of Manchester Students Union will not accept
responsibility for any losses or damage to persons or property which may occur. Insurance against such contingencies is recommended.

7. Any displays involving moving equipment must not at any time be left unsupervised. 8. All off-loading and loading will be carried out by the exhibitor and not by staff of University of Manchester Students Union. 9. Exhibitors will be given access to the campus to off-load exhibits, once this has been done you must remove your
vehicle to one of the public car parks nearby. Failure to do so will result in your vehicle being clamped.

21. Exhibition organisers are responsible for ensuring that all delegates / exhibitors are clearly briefed and understand both the Codes of Practice and the Fire Procedures document. A copy of the appropriate Fire Evacuation Procedures will be issued to each exhibitor as part of their registration pack. 22. Failure to comply with any part or parts of the Terms & Conditions of Booking will result in the removal of
permission to exhibit. The University of Manchester Students Union will not refund any payments under these circumstances.

10. Gangways in the Students Fair will be constructed to be not less than 2 metres wide. These gangways along
with passageways, stairways and fire exits must be kept clear of any obstructions and will be clearly marked. Additional direction and information signs may be required for complex layouts, these will be provided by the University of Manchester Students Union.
