THE SONNETS OF DEATH

Gabriela Mistral

From the frozen niche in which the men placed themselves,

I will take you down to the humble and sunny land.
What I have to do is fall asleep in it, the men did not know,
and that we have to dream on the same pillow.
I will lay you down in the sunny ground with a
sweetness of mother for the sleeping son,
and the earth must be made soft like a cradle
when receiving your injured child's body.

Then I will sprinkle earth and rose dust.

and in the bluish and light lunar dust,
the lightweight belongings will be left trapped.

I will walk away singing my beautiful revenge,

because to that deep down place, no hand
he will come down to compete for my handful of bones!

II
This long weariness will grow greater one day,
and the soul will tell the body that it doesn't want to continue

dragging its mass along the pink path,

Wherever the men go, happy to live...
You will feel that your side bravely cavan,
What other sleep arrives in the quiet city.
I will wait until I have been completely covered...
And then we will talk for an eternity!
Only then will you know why it does not mature.
for the deep wounds still on your heart,
you had to go down, without fatigue, to sleep.
Light will be made in the area of the bellies, dark;
you will know that in our alliance sign of stars there was
yes, broken the huge pact, you had to die...
III
Bad hand will take over life from the day
in which, at a signal from the stars, he will leave his staff
snowy azucenas. It flourished in joy.
Bad hands tragically entered it...
And I said to the Lord: -"Through the mortal paths
they take them. Beloved shadow that they do not know how to guide!

Tear it away, Lord, from those fatal hands

Oh, you plunge into the long sleep that you know how to give!

I can't shout at him, I can't follow him!

His boat pushes a black wind of storm.
Return it to my arms or you cut it down in bloom
The pink boat of her living stopped...
What do I not know about love, that I had no mercy?
You, who are going to judge me, understand it, Lord!
