• ANNEXURE A for QUESTION 3.1.5

3. Number the answers correctly according to the numbering system used in this

The Myeni family has drawn up a household budget listing the family’s income and expenses for the
month of August 2024.

2.1 Tommy is saving up to buy himself a tablet, in order to access learning materials for self
study on Vodacom E-school and the KZN funda portal. He saw an advert on an online store
as indicated below:

2.1.1 Explain the meaning of 16GB in the above context. (2)

2.1.2 Determine the price of the tablet excluding Vat, rounded off to 2 decimal places. (4)

2.1.3 The salesperson claims that the Vat charged on the tablet is approximately 7,7
times the total price of the tablet. Verify if the above claim is valid. (4)

2.1.4 If Tommy buys the tablet online, calculate the probability as a percentage that it
will not be shipped in 5 work days (3)

QUESTION 3
3.1 Happy decided to compare two bank accounts from Nedbank in order to chose one that
will save her the most bank charges. Her parents give her an allowance of R220 per
month and its paid directly into her account. She withdraws R150 and transfers R40 to a
separate savings account on a monthly basis.

Use ANNEXURE A and ANNEXURE B to answering the following questions:


3.1.1 Write the acronym ATM in full. (2)

3.1.2 Write the tariff for making a cash deposit at the Branch for the Nedbank
Pay-as-you use Account, and provide a reason as to why the cost of a cash deposit
at the branch is more expensive than a ATM/card deposit. (2)

3.1.3 Happy withdraws R150 each month in order to buy snacks at school.
Calculate the cost of withdrawing R150 from a Nedbank ATM for the two
different bank account types. (3)

3.1.4 Happy’s teacher advised her to take the Nedbank Pay-as-you use Account since
the overall cost per month will be cheaper. Show that the above advice is correct,
by means of appropriate calculations. (3)

3.1.5 Happy wants to transfer an amount of R40 from her Nedbank Pay-as-you use
Account to her Savings Account, however she is not sure if she must do the
transfer at the Nedbank Branch or by using the ATM/card option.
Justify with a reason which option Happy should choose. (2)
