SESSION 2025-26
Class: X Subject: Physics
Chapter: Human eye and the colorful world Submission Date- 02/08/2025

ASSIGNMENT-2
Questions 1 to 7 are objective type questions of ONE Mark each-

1. The human eye forms the image of an object at it’s:

a) Iris b) Pupil c) Retina d) Cornea
2. The image shows a light ray incident on a glass prism.

The various angles are labeled in the image. Which angle shows the angle of incidence and
angle of refraction, respectively?
(a) A and D (b) B and E (c) C and F (d) D and F
3. The image shows the ray diagram of a defective eye.
4. A person cannot see distinctly objects kept beyond 2 m. This defect can be corrected by using:
a) Concave lens b) Convex lens c) Plane mirror d) Bifocal lens
5. The phenomenon of splitting of white light into its components is known as:
a) Reflection b) Refraction c) Dispersion d) Scattering
6. Which of the following statements is correct about the rainbow formation?
a) It is formed due to refraction only.
b) It is formed due to reflection only.
c) It is formed due to total internal reflection.
d) It is formed due to dispersion, refraction, and internal reflection.
7. Why does the sun appear reddish early in the morning?
a) Due to refraction of light b) Due to scattering of shorter wavelengths
c) Due to scattering of longer wavelengths d) Because of diffraction

Assertion and Reason Questions (3 questions)

a) Both A and R are true, and R is the correct explanation of A.
b) Both A and R are true, but R is not the correct explanation of A.
c) A is true, R is false.
d) A is false, R is true.
8. Assertion (A): The sky appears blue to us during the day.
Reason (R): Blue light is scattered the most by the atmosphere.
9. Assertion (A): A person with myopia can see nearby objects clearly.
Reason (R): Myopia is corrected using a convex lens.
10. Assertion (A): A rainbow is a natural spectrum appearing in the sky after a rain shower.
Reason (R): Rainbow is formed due to dispersion and total internal reflection of sunlight in
water droplets.

Very Short Answer Type Questions (2 questions)

11. Name the phenomenon involve in given figure.

12. Name the phenomenon responsible for the twinkling of stars.

Short Answer Type Questions (2 questions)

13. Explain why the sky appears dark to passengers flying at high altitudes.
14. A student is unable to see clearly the words written on the black board placed at a distance
of approximately 3 m from him. Name the defect of vision the boy is suffering from. State the
possible causes of this defect and explain the method of correcting it.

Case based Question (1 question)

15. A student observed that while entering a dark cinema hall from bright sunlight, he could not
see clearly for a few seconds. Later he was able to see clearly. This is an example of adaptation
in the human eye. The pupil and iris play a major role in controlling the amount of light entering
the eye. At the same time, this concept is very important while studying defects of vision. For
example, myopia is corrected using concave lenses and hpermetropia with convex lenses.
Questions:
1. What is the function of the pupil in the human eye?
2. Which type of lens is used to correct myopia?
3. Why can’t we see in the dark immediately after coming from a bright area?
4. What is the role of the iris in vision?
5. Name two defects of vision and the lens used to correct each.
