Ruuhimäen villainen (valu-)rautasydän suojaa ruokapöytäsi kuumalta padalta tai sohvapöytäsi

teemukin kostealta kosketukselta.

Tarvikkeet:
neljä puikkoa, langan vahvuuden
mukaan (mallityössä 1 ¾ mm)
jämälankaa (mallityössä villaa,

neula viimeistelyyn

Työssä neulotaan yhteensä

kahdeksan lehteä ja niihin
yhdistyvät varret ohjeen mukaan.
Lehdet ja varren lopetuksen
kulmat neulotaan kolmella
puikolla, varret kahdella puikolla,
ylimääräinen neljäs puikko on
lehtien väliaikaista säilytystä
varten
Lehti:
luodaan 4 silmukkaa, niistä siirretään 2s toiselle puikolle, aletaan neuloa pyörönä sileää oikeaa
kolmannella puikolla. Neulotaan 2 krs.
3. krs: neulotaan yhdestä s:sta 2s, neulotaan yhdestä s:sta 2s, toinen puikko samoin (4 s /puikko)
4. krs: neulotaan oikein
5. krs: neulotaan yhdestä s:sta 2s, neulotaan 2 s, neulotaan yhdestä s:sta 2s, toinen puikko samoin

11. krs: neulotaan 2s yhteen takareunoistaan, neulotaan 2s, neulotaan 2s yhteen etureunoistaan,

Neulotaan lehden pituuden verran vartta neuloen joka krs:lla: 1 s neulomatta lanka työn edessä, 1
oikein, jätetään silmukat puikolle odottamaan, katkaistaan lanka jättäen noin 5 cm pätkä päättelyyn.

Sydämen puolikas:
Neulotaan kaksi lehteä varsineen, jälkimmäisestä ei katkaista lankaa lopuksi. Siirretään
ensimmäisen lehden silmukat samalle puikolle ja jatketaan nyt näillä neljän silmukan vartta jälleen
lehden pituuden verran neuloen joka krs:lla: *jätä 1 s neulomatta lanka työn edessä, neulo 1s
oikein*, *-* toistuu krs:n loppuun. Jätetään silmukat puikolle odottamaan, katkaistaan lanka jättäen
noin 5 cm pätkä päättelyyn.
Neulotaan toinen kahden lehden rypäs, jälkimmäisestä ei katkaista lankaa lopuksi. Siirretään
ensimmäisen rypäksen silmukat samalle puikolle ja jatketaan nyt näillä kahdeksan silmukan vartta
jälleen lehden pituuden verran neuloen joka krs:lla: *jätä 1 s neulomatta lanka työn edessä, neulo 1s
oikein*, *-* toistuu krs:n loppuun. Kiinnitetään tähän kerrokseen merkkilanka tai hakaneula.
Jatketaan varren neulomista kolme kertaa lehden pituuden verran, kiinnitetään jälleen merkkilanka

Käännetään, neulotaan takimmaisen puikon 3s nurin, käännetään, neulotaan etummaisen puikon 3s
nurin.

Siirretään silmukat apulangalle odottamaan, katkaistaan lanka jättäen noin 10 cm pätkä päättelyyn.

Neulotaan toinen samanlainen sydämen puolikas. Haluttaessa nyt voi paksuimpiin neulosputkiin
(sydämen ulkoreunat) laittaa täytteeksi sähköjohtoa/villaa/vanua/langanpätkiä. Silmukoidaan
sydämen kärki (apulangoilla olevat silmukat) yhteen. Kiinnitetään lehdet ja puolikkaat kohdilleen
kaavion mukaan ja päätellään langanpäät.

The very woollen (cast-) Iron Heart of Middle Earth ( a tiny village in Middle Earth called
Ruuhimäki occupied by goblins and other creatures was the inspiration for this pattern) protects
your dining table from the heat of the pots and your coffee table from the moist of the tea mugs.

Supplies:
four needles that suit your yarn (sample work: 1 ¾ mm)
yarn leftovers (sample work: black wool, thickness about 100g/260-300m)
needle for finishing touches
pieces of electrical wire/felt tubing or other thick yarn to make the heart more sturdy (sample work:
electrical wire)
size of your heart depends on your yarn and needles, the sample heart is about 14,5 cm in height

The work is knit by making altogether eight leaves and the stems that connect them. The leaves and
the end of the stems are knit with three needles, the stems are knit with two. The extra fourth needle
is for permanently storing the leaves during the work.

The leaf
Cast on four stitches, divide them into two needles, begin to knit in the round. Knit two rows.
3. row: knit two stitches of one stitch, knit two stitches of one stitch. Repeat with the other needle.
4. row: knit (4 stitches per needle)
5. row: knit two stitches of one stitch, knit two, knit two stitches of one stitch. Repeat with the other
needle. (6 stitches per needle)
6.-10. row: knit
11. row: knit two stitches together through back loops, knit two, knit two stitches together. Repeat
with the other needle. (4 stitches per needle)
12. row: knit
13. row: knit two stitches together through back loops, knit two stitches together. Repeat with the
other needle. (2 stitches per needle)
14. row: knit
15. row: knit two stitches together through back loops, repeat with the other needle.
Move the remaining two stitches to one needle. Continue by knitting the stem. Every row is knit:
slip one stitch with yarn on your side of the knit, knit one. Knit the stem for the lenght of the leaf,
leave the stitches waiting and cut the yarn, leaving about 5 cm.

Half of the heart:

Knit two leaves with stems, do not cut the yarn in the second one. Move the first leaf to the same
needle and continut knitting the stem with these four stitches until you have knitted the lenght of the
leaf. The stem is knit: *slip one stitch with yarn on your side of the knit, knit one*, *-* is repeated
until the end of the row. Leave the stitches waiting and cut the yarn, leaving about 5 cm.
Knit another bundle of two leaves, do not cut the yarn in the second one. Move the stitches of the
first one to the same needle and continue to knit the stem with these eight stitches: *slip one stitch
with yarn on your side of the knit, knit one*, *-* is repeated until the end of the row. Knit until you
have another lenght of the leaf. Attach a marker (yarn or safety-pin etc). Continue knitting the stem
for the length of three leaves, attach a marker. Continue knitting the stem for the length of one leaf,
attach a marker. Continue knitting the stem for the length of one leaf, attach a marker. Continue
knitting the stem for the length of one leaf, move the stitches to two needles: 1. stitch to back-
needle, 2. stitch to front-needle and so on. Finally you have four stitches in the front-needle, four
stitches in the back-needle. Continue by knitting the corner.
Corner:
Knit 4 stitches on the front-needle, turn work, knit 3 stitches from the back-needle.
Turn work. Purl 3 from the back-needle, turn work, purl 3 from the front needle.
Turn work, knit 3 stitches on the front-needle, turn work, knit 2 stitches from the back-needle.
Turn work. Purl 2 from the back-needle, turn work, purl 2 from the front needle.
Turn work, knit 2 stitches on the front-needle, turn work, knit 1 stitch from the back-needle.
Turn work. Purl 1 from the back-needle, turn work, purl 1 from the front needle.
Turn work, knit 1 stitch on the front-needle.
Move the stitches to wait on a piece of scrap-yarn, cut the yarn leaving about 10 cm.

Knit a second similar half of the heart, moving also it's stitches to another piece of scrap-yarn. Now
you can fill the thick parts of the tubes (the outside-edges of the heart) with some electrical
cors(felted wool-tube/insultation-foam etc). Graft together the pieces of the heart from the corners.
Attach the leaves to the edges to the places marked by the markers. Attach the two halves of the
heart together according to the graph. Neaten all loose ends.
