Music downloading cons

Comment [SH2]: Dez I know your creative! Come up with a catchy name to grab the readers attention Like Music Downloading: We All Do It But We Know We Should

A young girl named Brianna, who lived in New York with just her mother and her nine year old younger brother, was recently sued by a big time music industry who began to turn their legal guns on Internet music downloaders or in other words music-swappers. Brianna LaHara was a young twelve year old girl who did not see anything wrong with downloading free music if your mother paid the fee for a music downloading site called Kazaa . Kazaa is a music swapping service that her family had signed up for three months for only 29.99.Brianna would usually download and find all her music on this site. This was a P2P site peer 2 peers other people would find the music, or maybe even buy the music and then begin sharing it throughout the internet with site such as Kazaa. When Brianna LaHara found out she was being sued she

was very frightened to learn she was among the hundreds of people sued by giant music companies in federal courts around the country also so she was not alone. Brianna was among 261 people sued for copying thousands of songs via popular Internet file-sharing software and thousands more suits could be on the way. Brianna main concern was how was she chosen? Of all the people in the world who probably download music how was this twelve year old girl chosen to be sued by a big time music industry. Brianna mother Sylvia Torres asked Recording Industry Association of America who was behind this lawsuit, the same question and they too could not come up with an answer for why she was chosen . She then asked if the association knew Brianna was only 12 when it decided to sue her, Weiss, the spokesman for RIAA answered, "We dont have any personal information on any of the individuals." Brianna and the others sued under federal copyright law could face penalties of up to $150,000 per song, but the RIAA has already settled some cases for as little as $3,000. (CNN.com)
Comment [SH8]: I really liked this story. It was really interesting. Comment [SH9]: Im glad you added this story in it was really good and I was interested Comment [SH7]: Im guessing this is the Recording Industry Association of American If so in the previous sentence where you state the full put the abbreviation in parenthesis so when you use it throughout the paper the readers know what you are talking about. Comment [SH6]: That is a good question

Illegal music downloading is something that should not be done. Sites should as Limewire, Frostwire, Kazaa and others allow users to download music for free using P2P technology. Peer-to-Peer technology is a form of file sharing files, documents and other computer items with other systems. Peer to peer also known as P2P file sharing started with Napster in 1999 and has become the most popular way to share music, photos, documents and
Comment [SH10]: Stated this already in the previous paragraph.

many other files that are on the computer. Before Napster came about, there were not many ways that users could share files throw the computer. They may have used emails or different techniques, but it was a very narrow way to sharing files. Napster changed file sharing because of increased speed and Internet connections and the way files could be shared from one computer to another, so Napster grasped people attention very quickly and became very popular. These programs can do more than Napster was originally intended to do . They can exchange files networks and swap everything from music files to video files to photos and many more. Many people grasped the concept of Napster, and started making their own site that would allow people to exchange files just like Napster did.
Comment [SH11]: I like this paragraph because it is talking about the history behind file sharing. You state a lot of facts in this paragraph but there is no citing.

In the survey conducted by Opinion Research Corporation s CARAVAN poll, three out of four American adults (76 percent) claimed to own a computer and more than two thirds (67 percent) owned a mobile phone. (Askville) The internet is one of the fastest growing inventions ever, also growing so huge and opening so many different doors and opportunity to get and share so many files. One of the most popular uses is downloading music illegally. Being able to download music from the computer saves people so much money instead of having to actually buy it from stores or new ways such as iTunes, which has people able to download they music on the computer but also paying for it. Music companies argue that file sharing networks
Comment [SH15]: You talk about music companies a lot Were there any sources that talked about how the artist feel? Comment [SH12]: You have this source but its not in your works cited Comment [SH13]: Why is the precent in parenthesis? Check in-text citing on OWL. Comment [SH14]: I like this sentence

should not be able to allow consumers to download popular music due to the cost of the, and effect that it has on the actually music industry. Declining sales prices are the number one argument record companies use to defend their rights concerning downloading music . The music industry feel that when many people use blank cd s to add music from all over to fill them up, take away from the time and effort they put into making and advertising the sale of their own cds. The opposing argument to that is people claim that CDs cost entirely too much money given that many may want the CD for one particular song and just a few from the album.
Comment [SH16]: DO we know what the declining sales are? Like do we have a before frostwire and all the P2P sites came around and then the sale prices afterwards

Many things come into play when speaking about the cons of music downloading . One reason people may not care about illegally downloading music because they think that music artists already make enough money. This statement is not always true for every artist especially the new and upcoming artistes who music is always being downloaded for free rather then bought. Also, even if the artist is making a lot of money due to the success of the earlier music or other things they might have going on, who is anyone to judge how much they should be making and continue to make with all the hard work they put into producing and adverting their music. They earned the money, so they have a right to it. Another problem that occurs for music artists when their music is downloaded illegally is , often, the downloaded song is not the best of the best quality. Often, when many people are downloading songs from any other site besides

Comment [SH17]: I thought the whole part was about the cons of music downloading

Comment [SH18]: Its not really a statement more of an assumption

Comment [SH19]: Reread this sentence because it doesnt make sense.. . I think you meant to say that the songs are not the best of quality when they are illegally downloaded And if that is the case wouldnt that me a good thing because it would make the people want the really version and go out and buy it

the official site of the artist, these websites are not really getting the best quality of music available. Usually song that has been produced has been burned or reproduced a few different times. The quality of the artists hard work is being destroyed and it makes the artist look bad and lose fans. Though some music downloading site are free the many systems and websites that actually are used to download the music is more than what people expect . When people download systems like Napster the first P2P downloading music site, LimeWire, Frost wise and many other downloading sites, they get more than just the simple downloading system that they may think they are getting. Then people download these different sites, they usually run into problems with their own personal computer, which has been proven that these site like these causes viruses on personal computers. So not only does music downloading because problems with music industries it also cause personal problem depending on how you are getting the music. Being able to download music for free has only put a small dent into artists pocket. However now that it is becoming more common the dent is slowly but surely becoming larger and starting become a bigger issue than what it had originally started out . "Megan Taylor, better known by her musical name Sapphirecut, a musician whose first single went straight to the top of billboard charts, sold 15,000 vinyl copies of her single, and was headed towards great success was incredibly discouraged and confused to see that that her CD sales were incredibly low, selling a total of 110 discs.
Comment [SH22]: I like this paragraph. I like how you talk about the artist and give reasons to why people download music. Comment [SH23]: I think you need to bring these sentence up to where you are talking about artist and how they are losing money.. It would make things flow better Comment [SH21]: Your talking about getting more what more are they getting negative or positive Comment [SH20]: Why is that?

Illegally downloading music from the internet for free is a huge disagreement many people who download music illegally argue the fact that the music was bought at some time in life therefore they arent affecting the artists sells. Companies and musicians on the other hand , have a different view about downloading this music for free on these different sites. They say that have made this music and people are downloading it off the internet instead of buying it from a store and that just is not fair for them to work so hard for no profit. Sales in the music industry have gone down as a result of the many people who have turned to downloading music off the internet or different P2P sites. The music industry is suffering greatly from people downloading music off the internet, so are the musicians who make their living from selling their music, and if you do download music do you know what the penalties are when you get caught? Music downloading will continue to go on also as people like the artist. Many music industries have threating to sue the many people who download their music illegally, however its a lose lose situation. If music industries actually sue people for the downloading on the music the increasing of the CD sells still would not increase. Fans swap song through the internet and feel that if they are only downloading the music from one computer that it is completely fine. Criminalizing these folks would be the wrong approach to trying to stop the many people who download music, because this problem would be ongoing whether they sue or they do not . Music lovers are still interested in maintaining a CD collection and downloading has not affected
Comment [SH24]: Youve stated this already If this is your conclusion try to state this in a different way because you basically say the exact same thing in the pervious paragraph

their desire for ownership and actually having that CD in hand . Many music industries have done everything in their power to eliminate P2P sites, so instead of actually trying to eliminate the cause they should actually try getting on board with the movement and get their sells more to the internet rather than strictly stores, adapting to the idea of using the internet to reach a wider mass of individuals would be one of the smartest moves music industries would come up with, if they chose to go that route. Illegal music download started with Napster and from there began to cost many industries more problems than ever.
Comment [SH25]: I think this is a really long paragraph you may want to break it up into two paragraphs Comment [SH26]: Think that your paper was good. You dont really have a really strong introduction after the story. Comment [SH27]: I think that some parts in the paper are a little repeated. You say things multiple times. Comment [SH28]: I think that you need to go through your paper because you do have some minor grammatical errors and places where words are out of order.
