Eat, drink and be scary

O
ne of my favourite times of year has arrived. Theres a lot to be said for dressing up in a stupid costume, acting like a child for a day (which, lets face it, we all love), trying to outdo the previous year and being as inventive as possible. It also gives us the opportunity and freedom to dress up as whatever we want and go all Sasha Fierce! Halloween is the one day of the year where it is socially acceptable to get a bit wild. Its especially good for shyer people as dressing up can give you more confidence to become a social butterfly. Its funny how our perceptions change of dressing up, depending on what age we are. When I was younger I used to love dressing up and going to my cousins every year for a Halloween party. I used to dress up as a witch, or a cat the usual costumes. I remember being really inventive one year and dipping a rice crispy in face paint to pretend it was a wart on my face (clearly that year I was a witch). At the party we had the usual games - ducking for apples, tying the apple to a string and trying to eat it and of course trick or treating. Then you hit the 13-17 year old age bracket and its un-cool to dress up. I actually remember telling people once that I was a nudist on strike when asked why I wasnt in the Halloween spirit! Now I have grown up, the thought of embracing my inner child and becoming something different for the night, always gets me excited. In my student days one of the best nights of the year was Halloween. Every bar/nightclub was stuffed to bursting and the difficult decision was deciding where to go. I remember there actually being a queue outside the second hand shop Rusty Zip in Belfast. It is a great shop for getting finishing touches and/or an entire costume for cheap. Then you have the people who are lucky enough to have the imagination and skill to make a costume. My personal favourite from years ago was a guy dressed up as Noel Edmonds from Deal or no Deal. He had his hair sprayed grey, had a ridiculous floral shirt on him, a red box around his waist and a phone attached to his ear. As much as I would love to be one of those people who are inventive enough to design and make my own costume, Im not. Usually last minute dot com as always, Im scouring the internet for costumes that are original and not over the top expensive. Lets face it, Im not going to get loads of wear out of it! Once costumes are in place the next important call of duty is to decide on a location. Last year the girls and I went to Derry. It has a fantastic Halloween festival every year and attracts thousands of people. We decided that in order to have maximum impact we should dress up as a group and cave girls was the winning suggestion. I have to admit that when we were all together as a group we looked brilliant, especially with the inventive idea of smearing black shoe polish over our faces and arms and our hairs having been back combed to an inch of its life! With matching accessories and clubs (not many of which came home with us) we really looked the part. The unfortunate cave man that just happened to be standing close to where the bus dropped us off didnt know what to do when nine cave girls came running towards him. Anyway a picture with Mr Cave Man later and we were happily clambering down the street towards the closest watering hole. Without a doubt Halloween is definitely one of my favourite days of the year. It gives us the opportunity to express yourself, socialise (not that we need an excuse) and more importantly to have a laugh. Remember youll look and feel stupid if you dont dress up.

et again X-Factor is making its way into Everyones Talking about. Well because they are. The latest is a feud between Cheryl Cole and Louis Walsh. A few weeks ago when Cheryl made a comment about a performance, Louis lashed out at her saying Its not all about you Cheryl. It seems that if the judges feel contestants are failing to provide entertainment, they will pick up the task and do anything to get people talking. The catty comment has sparked war among the two judges and Cheryl has apparently complained to Simon that Louis is bullying her. Simon who has been reported to be siding with Cheryl, has stated that he thinks it is hilarious and claims that Louis picks someone new to fight with every year. Not all sweetness and light though, the Girls Aloud star has described Louis as stupid and that he thinks he is the star of the show. Maybe its time for the two judges to grow up and realise that it is not actually about them at all and the public are no more interested in any little spat they have. And thats my rant over!

BOOTY BEAT OF THE WEEK It might not get you bopping about the dance floor but I cant stop singing Bruno Mars song Just the way you are. The song has become even more incredible after Matt Cardle performed it on the X-Factor. Love it.

Mrs Cole.

A Lotta love.

Theres nothing nicer than coming in from the freezing cold to a warm open fire, a glass of vino, a Chinese and Xfactor. Sad but true!

How this woman has lived with numerous serial killers who have tried to kill her and she still walks the cobbled streets, Ill never know. To be fair you cant blame her for being the way she is with David Platt for a son.

HATE CAMPAIGN AGAINST CHERYL

As much as Im not a fan of her decision of failing to put Gamu through, claims that

I was never really a fan but his latest musical offering does him no favours. The first time I heard it I thought it was a girl. He reminds me a bit of a young Daniel ODonnell
