Britney Spears had the most famous melt-down of them all.

When good goes bad

emember when you were a little girl without a care in the world and you used to always want to be a pop star or a glamorous Hollywood actress when you grew up? Well anything would do really as long as you were famous. But now that you are grown up (physically anyway in my case) do you still want to be famous? Being honest a little part of me would love that glitz and glamour come on who wouldnt?! To have your own stylist, personal trainer (theyd have their work cut out for them with me though) and a make-up artist to make you look good on those off days would be an absolute dream. But as with most things, it all of course comes at a price. Look at all the child stars that we grown up with Britney Spears, Lindsay Lohan, Christina Aguilera, Macauley Culkin and of course before that

there was the likes of Drew Barrymore, Michael Jackson and Gary Oldman. All A-List stars with more than a few blips along the way. Take Britney Spears. Now I am a huge Britney fan (I even have her greatest hits special edition at that and I dont care who knows it) and find it so sad when I think about all that has gone on in her life. Granted shes at least trying to make some sort of comeback but shes still not the Britney that used to strut her stuff to oh bai-bai baibai and writher around with a snake around her neck. Admit it even if its a guilty pleasure, she is awesome. Anyway, when I first saw pictures years ago of her shaving her head I thought it was a publicity stunt and there was no way she would actually shave off her blonde locks. But lo and behold it was not a PR stunt; instead she was having a serious mental breakdown. And how wouldnt

she? She was constantly being criticised. If she put on a few pounds she was criticised for being fat and if she lost them again she was accused of being too skinny and encouraging young girls to lose weight. If she got a spot it was magnified and shown to the world. Britney isnt the only celebrity that faces this barrage from the media and public, female celebrities in particular are constantly being put under pressure to look good and then they cant win anyway when they do look well. Lindsay Lohan is another one. Shes been in prison, granted it was more like a drive-through for her as she served 84 minutes of a 24 hour sentence when she was arrested for drink driving. To me the price you pay for being a celebrity is too big for me to take my aspirations seriously. Imagine nipping out to the shop for a pint of milk and being met with

a dozen paparazzi taking pictures and going to any length necessary to do so. There is no way you could go out without any make-up, in a tracksuit, hair scraped back and glasses because youre too lazy to put in contacts (this is me Im describing here not a good look) because you would be crucified the next day for doing so. Im not saying that being a celebrity is an excuse for drink driving, doing drugs and being a resident in rehab because its not. When its genuine however, you can see why they go off the rails like they do. But then again they put themselves into the limelight and everyone knows what that entails nowadays. Part of me feels compassion towards these wayward celebrities as theyve been tempted too much by the Hollywood high life and lured into what they see as security.

was totally shocked when I heard last week about Sam Faiers from The Only Way is Essex being beat unconscious by a group of 10 girls who are believed to have run away when they thought they had killed her. Sam and her sister Billie were out in a nightclub in London when Billie got her handbag stolen. The thieves were put out when the sisters complained to the bouncers but when they got outside Billie was attacked but the girls escaped in a taxi. Hours later Sam received a call from Billies phone saying that they would get her phone back if they met the girls in a field. They did which resulted in Sam being brutally beaten up. This draws on my column that fame comes at a price. This time it is a very high price. Obviously the cowards who carried out this attack are overcome with jealousy and cant stand to see other girls doing well for themselves. I can understand that some people would rather stick a fork in their eye than watch shows like TOWIE but no one deserves that. Get well soon girls!
