Saad Khan Mrs. Currie Humanities 15 April 2012 Field Trip Report King Tut Exhibit: 1.

King Tuts Sandals: The first thing that I found really interesting was King Tuts Sandals. They were made of pure gold and looked really uncomfortable to wear. Though they did look fashionable for this time period. They were found on King Tuts mummy when his sarcophagus was found. It really amazes me that these were on the great pharaohs feet.

2. King Tuts Bed: The second thing that really amazed me was the bed King Tut slept on. It did not look very comfortable and you would expect a pharaoh to have a more comfortable one. It was made out of straw. I found this interesting because it amazes me that this artifact is still intact after more than 3000 years.

3. Finger and Toe covering: This item really intrigued me. They were also made from pure gold, but I was confused on what exactly was the purpose of these. They just looked very uncomfortable and would make it harder to do everyday activities. Maybe they were used to keep your fingers and toes safe. I found it interesting because they are very odd and not something you would see every day.

4. Gold Mask of Psussenes I: This just amazed me. It is probably worth more than a million dollars and I as literally 2 feet away from me. This mask was a death mask put on the pharaoh after his mummification. I found it interesting because it looked really neat and was really shiny.

5. Ancient Egyptian Toilet Seat: I probably spent most of my time looking at his one piece of the exhibit. I found it amusing but at the same time very cool. To think that is where a person 3000 years ago did their business. I found this really interesting because of how well it was preserved.

MFAH: Jules Olitski, Prince Patutszky Pleasures, 1962. This Painting really intrigued me. I was confused at what it was. I read the title and it still didnt make much sense to me. I looked at and all I could think of was a cell. I then realized it was an abstract piece of art. Its meaning was what the artist thought it was when he was painting it. This piece of Art could have many different meanings depending on what the viewer sees it as. Sculpture Garden: Linda Ridgway, The Dance, 2000. At first when I saw this sculpture I was debating with my group whether or not it was real. After doing some research I realized that it was actually a sculpture in the garden. It looked very real and the sculptor did a really great job making it blend in with the rest of the garden. Menil Collection: This museum was far by the favorite museum we went to on this whole field trip. My favorite paint was Taraval Beach by Richard Serra. This painting was literally a black background. Most people would say this was not art, but after sitting in the room with it I felt

there was a very deep meaning to this painting. Im not sure how the artist saw this as a beach, but after staring at it u can tell that there is a very deep meaning that the artist is trying to convey. Rothko Chapel: I found this Chapel to be one in which one can just relax. I actually felt as if I can just sleep in the chapel since it was so calming, serene, and silent. The paintings on the wall, although may seem plain, really relax you and help you relieve stress.
