4 on Forbes magazine's annual survey of the 100 most powerful women in the world. Indra Nooyi is the newly appointed CEO of PepsiCo-the world's second-largest soft drink maker. She joins the select band of women who head Fortune 500 companies. Presently, there are only 10 Fortune 500 companies that are run by women, and Indra Nooyi is the 11th to break into the top echelons of power. Prior to becoming CEO, Indra Nooyi was President, Chief Financial Officer and a member of the Board of Directors of PepsiCo Inc. Indra Nooyi spent her childhood in Chennai. Her father worked at the State Bank of Hyderabad and her grandfather was a district judge. She did her BSc. in Chemistry from Madras Christian College and subsequently earned a Master's Degree in Finance and Marketing from IIM Calcutta. Indra Nooyi also holds a Master's Degree in Public and Private management from the Yale School of Management. Before joining PepsiCo in 1994, Indra Nooyi was Senior Vice President of Strategy and Strategic Marketing for Asea Brown Boveri, and Vice President and Director of Corporate Strategy and Planning at Motorola. She also had stints at Mettur Beardsell and Johnson & Johnson. At PepsiCo, Indra Nooyi played key roles in the Tricon spin-off, the purchase of Tropicana, the public offering of Pepsi Cola bottling group and the merger with Quaker Foods. leading food and beverage companies. On August 14, 2006, Nooyi was named the successor to Steven Reinemund as chief executive officer of the company effective October 1, 2006. On February 5, 2007, she was named Chairperson, effective May 2, 2007. Nooyi joined PepsiCo in 1994 and was named president and CFO in 2001. Nooyi has directed the companys global strategy for more than decade and led PepsiCos restructuring, including the 1997 divestiture of its restaurants into Tricon, now known as Yum! Brands. Nooyi also took the lead in the acquisition of Tropicana in 1998, and merger with Quaker Oats Company, which also brought Gatorade to PepsiCo. In 2007 she became the fifth CEO in PepsiCos 44year history. Nooyis key contributions include promoting and supporting socially responsible business practices, including taking on one of the planets most pressing problems, climate change. Her commitment to global citizenship is evidenced by her multiyear growth strategy, Performance with Purpose. Nooyi was named on Wall Street Journals list of 50 women to watch in 2007 and 2008, and was listed among Times 100 Most Influential People in The World in 2007 and 2008. Nooyi has been named 2009 CEO of the Year by the Global Supply Chain Leaders Group (GSCLG).

Indra Nooyi is now the President and Chief Executive Officer of PepsiCo. PepsiCo, which is the world`s fourth largest food and Beverage Company, is now under the Chairmanship of Indra Krishnamurthy Nooyi who is also the Chief Executive Officer of PepsiCo.

Indra Nooyi was born on October 28, 1955 in Chennai ,Tamil Nadu in India. In 1974 she completed her graduation from Madras Christian College and entered the Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta for the PGDBA(Post GraduateDiploma in Business Administration)program. After completing the programme in 1976 ,she worked in India for several years.

Indra Nooyi took admission in the Yale School of Management in 1978 for a master`s degree in Management. Following her master`s degree in Public and Private Management from Yale in 1980, Nooyi started working at The Boston Consulting Group (BCG). Before joining Pepsico Nooyi was the Senior Vice President of Strategy and Strategic Marketing for Asea Brown Boveri(ABB), and Vice President and Director of Corporate Strategy and Planning at Motorola.

Indra Nooyi joined PepsiCo in 1994.She became the President and the Chief Financial Officer (CFO)of Pepsico in 2001 .She became the Chief Executive Officer (CEO)of Pepsico on 14th August 2006 and the fifth CEO in PepsiCo`s fourty one -year history.

As the CEO she launched the brand Tricon which is currently known as Yum! Brands Inc. Nooyi also played an important role in the acquisition of Tropicana in 1998, and merger with Quaker Oats Co. Indra Nooyi also promoted the concept of performance with purpose, aiming to make PepsiCo a leader in offering healthy foods .She also promoted the idea of hiring a diverse workforce. Indra Nooyi was listed on Wall Street Journal`s list of 50 women in 2005, and in 2007 was listed among Time`s 100 Most Influential People in The World. According to 2006 Forbes magazine Nooyi was ranked the fourth most powerful woman in the world. Indra Nooyi was ranked one on the Fortune Magazine`s list of most powerful women in business.Apart from being a Successor Fellow at Yale Corporation ,Nooyi is also the member of the board of directors of several organizations, including Motorola, the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, the International Rescue Committee, and the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts.

Indra Nooyi lives in Greenwich ,Connecticut with her husband ,Raj Kishan Nooyi and their two daughters.
