Title of the Project: STUDENT -DATABASE

Database is the computerized record keeping system. It acts as a warehouse to store the information in the form of files belonging to any organization or company.

1. PURPOSE: The software is for keeping the record of student Can enter detail related to student Can read and write information about any student. Can create delete and search the record of students.

GROUP NO. :-1

JOB PORTAL

The feature includes viewing many information including personal information, current status and messages.

2. DESCRIPTION OF PRESENT SYSTEM:When a student enrolls in University, his/her personal information including previous academic background is entered into the database. When a semester starts, advisor advises courses and at the time of advising, the courses that the student is going to take are inputted directly into the database. During the semester, a students academic information (midterm marks, quiz marks, etc) is maintained in a file system. It is the job of the Teaching Assistant to maintain these marks and for this purpose spreadsheet software like Ms Excel is used. At the end of the semester, when all the grades are posted and finalized by the faculty, the administrator enters them into the database. The academic and personal information of a student is stored in the database. A student does not have accessibility to the main Database. Students are therefore unable to view their personal information. However, students can check their CGPA, grades. In the case, where students needs to change their phone, address they have to submit an application to the university stating their new information.

JOB PORTAL

The information regarding a faculty is also stored in the database. Faculties do have accessibility to the main Database. But, their accessibility is restricted to the view level and they are not allowed to update any information. It is only during the advising session, they can add or drop courses for a particular student.

3. SCOPE: Any educational institute can make use of it for keeping the record of student.

4. ASSUMPTION: This application is used to convert the manual application to the computerized application. User does not have rights to enter information

OBJECTIVE
The objective of this project is to build a database management system with normal application. The feature includes viewing many information including personal information, current status, messages.

FEASIBILITY STUDY
In feasibility study phase we had undergone through various steps which are describe as under: Identify the origin of the information at different level. Identify the expectation of user from computerized system. Analyze the drawback of existing (manual) System.

DRABACKS OF PRESENT SYSTEM

Some of the problems being faced in manual system are as follows: Fast report generation is not possible. Tracing a record of student is difficult. No central database can be created.

PROPOSED SYSTEM
Proposed system provides following solutions: It provides better and efficient service to user. Reduced the workload of employee. Faster retrieval of information about students. All details will be available on a click. Provide facilities for proper monitoring reduce paper work and provide data security.

Scope of Student Information System

During the course of the project there will be times when a possible change to the approved scope and objectives of the project is identified. Some of the reasons for changes in scope include the following:

The business needs have changed The organization has changed Desire to exploit technology improvements The organization priorities have changed New or changes to legislation/regulations Affect of other projects within the organization Original scope was not fully defined or defined inaccurately

Any project participant or other concerned party may request a change in project scope to the Project Director, who will then assign the request to the appropriate team member. An initial review will be made to examine the need for the change, how it can be achieved and what the consequences will be. Based on those conclusions, the recommended action will be proposed. If agreed upon by the Project Director and Project Team Leads, the proposed change in project scope will be presented to the LASER Steering Committee and/or the LASER Executive Committee for approval. Decisions on

JOB PORTAL

minor changes having little impact on project scope may be made by the Project Director. The decision whether to accept or reject a change will be based on fundamental logic: 1. Is the change unavoidable (e.g., legislative changes)? 2. Does the change increase the overall benefit to K-State (taking into account any impact on the costs, benefits, timeline and risks?) 3. Is the Project Team able to make such a change? 4. Is the change best done now, or would it be more beneficial to defer it until post implementation?

DESIGN
Context Diagram :In drawing the context diagram of a system, we look at the system from the outside. Our attention is what are external entities and what are inputs/outputs. This system gets a registration form from a student, processes the form, and sends a confirmation-of- registration to the student. Therefore, its context diagram, consists of student as its external entity, registration form as its input, and confirmation-letter as its output.

Detailed DFD:In this step, we look at the system from the inside. Our attention now is on what the inputs are transformed into, how the inputs are processed, what the outputs are created from, and how the outputs are prepared. To draw to detail DFD for this system with the inside perspective, we decompose the process in Figure 2.1 into three processes: process 1.0 Verify_Availability, process 2.0 Enroll_Student, and Process 3.0 Confirm_Registration. The process 1.0 gets requested courses from a registration form, verifies their availabilities using information from the course file, and produces accepted/rejected requested courses. The process 2.0 gets the output from the process 1.0, updates the course file and the student file, and produces a registration result. The process 3.0 gets the output from the process 2.0 and produces a confirmation letter. The detail DFD of this analysis is shown in Figure 2.2.

ENTITY RELATIONSHIP DIAGRAM

Three-Level Architecture
We can consider the database on three levels of abstraction: external, conceptual, and internal. Definition The external level of a database has the users' views of the database. The conceptual level describes the logical structure of the entire database, including descriptions of the data and relationships among the data. The internal level gives the details of the physical storage of the database on the computer.

Definition The Entity-Relationship (ER) model, a highlevel data model that is useful in developing a conceptual design for a database.

ENTITY:Definition An entity is a real-world item or concept that exists on its own. The set of all possible values for an entity is the entity type. EXAMPLE:- ER diagram notation for entity student

ATTRIBUTE:Definition An attribute of an entity is a particular property that describes the entity. The set of all possible values of an attribute is the attribute domain.

EXAMPLE:- ER diagram notation for an attribute domain (StudentGrade) of an entity type (student)

CONCLUSION

From a proper analysis of positive points and constraints on the component, it can be safely concluded that the product is a highly efficient GUI based component. This application is working properly and meeting to all user requirements. This components can be easily plugged in many other systems.
