The tongue is a muscular oral structure that affects

speech, the position of teeth, periodontal tissue, swallowing
and nursing. Ankyloglossia is a congenital anomaly, that
limits the range of motion of the tongue, impairing its ability
to fulfil its functions. Ankyloglossia has been blamed for
difficulties in feeding, swallowing and for creating dental
anomalies. This article presents 14 clinical cases, their
treatment and the results in tongue mobility and generally in
oral functions.
We conclude that, apart from the cases that the young
patient has adapted without problems to the limited tongue
mobility; all the other cases should be dealt surgically, as
early as possible, because the excision of the frenum helps
these patients to overcome their problems.
