For Mother
"Ask it, my mother, for I will not refuse you." (1 Kings 2:20).

Bathsheba had something. She was the wife of a king, and the mother of a king. Her journey may not have been without mistakes, but we find her to be one of the very limited inclusions of women in the listed lineage of Jesus. I have an idea that she became a woman of some influence. Perhaps you can picture the young king, Solomon, as he is trying to fill the role that has so long been filled by his well loved father. His time has not come without some controversy, even within his own family. He has also been assigned the great task of fulfilling his fathers great desire to build a temple that would be worthy of God. Amid all of the duties and obligations that are now laid upon him, he is confronted by his mother. There is a special bond between a mother and her son. Outside of his wife, there will be no woman who loves him, challenges his thinking, and wields more influence in his life more than his mother. As Bathsheba receives an audience with her son, the king, it is an open opportunity. Notice the willingness of the son to do as his mother wishes, before he even knows the nature of her request. There is not much that a son will not try to do for his mother. While we may notice that Solomon does not fulfill his mothers request, we also notice that she was only making the request on behalf of another person, and not of her own desire. We know very little about the life of Bathsheba. We tend to associate her name with the adultery with David, and little else. Lay aside all the other problems and challenges in her life. Recognize her as the mother who raised a king. See her in this one event and know the relationship she had with her son. Then we see her in her best light. She was Solomons mother. What would he not do for his mother? Russ

Mother Taught
Hebrews 11:23-26
When you read of the life and faith of the man, Moses, you cannot help but see the imprint of his mother on him. It is true that we know little of his mother, but what we are given to see makes us aware that she was an impressive woman who did not count lightly the blessing that God had given to her in her son. Under a fearful penalty, she and her husband hid the baby for months before realizing that they were facing more than they could handle. Making a boat for the baby, she placed the child in the river, but must not have expected the child to just die. Leaving a daughter to watch the baby, we can infer that she still held hope that something good would result from her efforts. The writer of the book of Hebrews tells us that what she did, she did from faith. Being given the opportunity to be the nurse and attendant of the baby, we cannot doubt that she took every opportunity to encourage the young boy in that faith. Jochebed, Moses' mother, must have been a fine woman, and a great example of what it means to be a mother. Throughout our lives we will have many teachers. Some will fill the formal ranks from the kindergarten and pre-school to the halls of the graduate schools. Some will be employers who instruct us as we labor in their employ. Some will be friends or companions who will tell us the things that only a friend can say. Some will be spouses who exhort and encourage as well as remind us of things we need to know in life. Still, the most notable teachers of our lives will be our mothers. While we may take many other relationships into our lives, none come near to the woman who brought us into the world and showed us the beauty of love. Mothers teach us from the very beginning of our lives until the last breath they take. Age old advice: Listen to your mother. Russ

Spotlight on Mission Work This Week: India Preaching School & Orphanage School:
There are many parts of this work and we will list parts of it in more than one bulletin. The school was founded in 1991 by Jack and Zonelle Cox. The administrator and preacher is D.B.B. Chandrapaul. His son is now an integral part of the administration. The school trains Indians to speak English. This helps spread the Word because English is generally accepted as the business language in India. Grammar School: This is one the very few religious schools recognized by the Indian government. The school grants certificates which provide the children of the home with recognition and the opportunity to apply for government jobs and further study. Widows: 15 widows stayed at the home last year. They help in all phases taking care of the children while also learning a trade. Next: Orphanage, Preaching School, and Printing Press
