FOREWORD

To my knowledge, this is the first book about QlikView being published that is more than an introduction or a beginners guide. It is written by a Senior BI professional and aimed at an audience that either has recently discovered QlikView or has been working with it for some time and wants to gain a deeper understanding. Mr. Rajendran has implemented and overseen 160+ QlikView projects in the last 7 years: from small, medium to large; in CPG, Manufacturing, Telecom, Financial Services and Insurance. He has summarized his experiences to help you position, develop, implement and understand QlikView. It's an ambitious book and ambition is THE key word in the context of Business Intelligence (BI). To become better organizations must encourage innovation and learn from experiencesyours and othersand really take advantage of available information resources. In 2012, striving to innovate and become better is no longer an option but a must, and to harness relevant data and adapt faster is a challenge every organization must address. Data is our new raw material and how we refine and use it is instrumental. Business Intelligence is the term used for a group of tools intended to access, manage and analyze data. In enterprise organizations, tools must be reliant, secure and stable (hygiene factors required by IT) while being easy to use and fast to develop and adapt (hygiene factors required by users). Traditional BI tools has failed in the latter and is now playing catch up with QlikView and other Data Discovery tools that better meet the new needs of information workersa group that is growing to mean almost everyone in your organization, not just a select few. I hope you get value from this book and the experiences of a great QlikView practitionerand that it helps you to stay ahead of the curve. Johan Averstedt 6 April 2012
