Topic: Calculating Time Intervals
What is a time interval?
A time interval is the amount of time that passes between a starting time and an ending time.
To find the time interval:
• Write the start time and end time.
• Subtract the start time from the end time.
• If the minutes in the end time are less than the minutes in the start time, borrow 1 hour = 60 minutes.
Example 1:
Start time: 8:20 End time: 10:45
10 h 45 min − 8 h 20 min = 2 h 25 min
Example 2 (Borrowing minutes):
Start time: 7:50 End time: 9:15
We can’t subtract 50 min from 15 min. So, borrow 1 hour from 9 hours → becomes 8 hours 75 minutes.
8 h 75 min − 7 h 50 min = 1 h 25 min
