Memorandum of Understanding

Signed this day, _______[date]___________, this memorandum clarifies the expecta tions and responsibilities of each group in the partnership between the Louisian a Bucket Brigade and _________[community groups]______________ The Role of the Louisiana Bucket Brigade The Louisiana Bucket Brigade (LABB) is environmental health and justice organiza tion using grassroots action (referred to below as campaigns) to achieve sustainab le neighborhoods free from industrial pollution. We offer support and consultation regarding community organizing, media outreach , sustainability, sampling and health assessment, fundraising, and other relevan t areas. LABB also provides direct financial support to community groups by paying for or ganizing expenses including, but not limited to, sample analyses and press confe rences. The Louisiana Bucket Brigades assistance is available to communities worried abou t local pollution issues, provided that (1) a group of concerned residents has f ormed around pollution issues and (2) residents have already taken some action o n those issues. Community Responsibilities In order to maintain a partnership with LABB, the community group will be expect ed to: Maintain an organized community group that meets on a regular basis Work with the LABB to identify clear goals Designate community members as spokespeople and representatives at meetings Provide meeting space in the community Keep LABB informed of relevant events and communication with the facility Edit letters, press releases, reports, and other documents about the work Attend training sessions as necessary Participate in conference calls and attend conferences for the statewide Fenceli ne Neighbors Network Designate community members willing and available to conduct air sampling Help raise funds for the campaign, including attending LABB fundraising events a nd speaking with, hosting, and giving neighborhood tours to funders Recommend community members to serve on the LABB committees and board of directo rs (appointments are subject to the boards approval) LABB Responsibilities The community group can expect that LABB will: Provide any necessary materials, especially materials for air monitoring, in a t imely manner Give as much advanced notice as possible of events, including press conferences a nd training sessions.

Respond promptly to calls and questions from community members Work with the individuals designated as contact people by the community Organize logistics for conferences and meetings Fundraise for program expenses. Fundraising will reference the partnership in wri tten materials and also in conversation with funders [additional requests to be filled in by community at time of agreement] _____________________________________________________________________ _____________________________________________________________________ Community Rights Even with LABBs involvement in the campaign, it remains the communitys campaign. If at any point either LABB or the community group feels the other is not fulfil ling the responsibilities described here, it should clearly inform the partner g roup. Either the community or the LABB may terminate the partnership at any tim e. We understand the expectations of the partnership and look forward to working to gether on the campaign.
