ABCTAX software Development Company releases a new software package that incorporates the new tax laws and computes taxes for both individuals and small businesses. The president of the company knows that the program has a number of bugs. Therefore, the company includes a disclaimer of responsibility for errors resulting from the use of the program. As the president is keen to capture the large market potential for this kind of new software, the company widely advertises the program. The company plans to use the customer feedbacks that will be received on a number of complaints, queries, and suggestions for modification to release upgraded versions. The president argues that this is general industry policy and that customers who purchase initial version will take proper precautions. A number of users of the software filed incorrect tax returns and were penalised by the Australian Taxation Office. .
