Serving in Heidelberg, Germany with Club Beyond Facebook: Austin & Katy Van Wyk www.mcym.org hossandkatylin@gmail.com Dear Friends and Supporters, We love military families! This month we asked a couple of our friends (who are each a part of a military family) to share some of their experiences with you so that you can get an even better understanding of what its like to do life in this context! We hope you enjoy seeing these pieces of our puzzle!

Robins Story

Anderson family

Life as a military teen has been an incredible adventure. I have never lived anywhere for more than four years and even then we moved neighborhoods. With constant change in my life, Club Beyond has been an incredible blessing. I first got involved a few years ago when we lived in South Carolina. The positive, encouraging, yet challenging spiritual atmosphere provided a wonderful addition to my walk. When I found out we were moving to Germany, one of my first questions was inquiring about the Club Beyond there. After moving to Heidelberg, one of the first things I did was find out about Club Beyond and meet with some of the leaders. What a joy and blessing to have a just as good if not better Club here! Without my Club family, my life would not be anywhere near as awesome or as spiritually encouraging! Being a military teen, life often presents many challenges, adventures, and always changes. Knowing that I will always have God and most likely a Club Beyond, gives me such great encouragement and is a true blessing in my life. ~ Rachel Hart, daughter of Chaplain Lt. Colonel Bob and Diann Hart.

Rachels Story

What is it like as a military family? Well, I cant tell you how it is for everyone, but I can tell you about our experience. We have been overseas for almost 8 years now (5 years in Korea and 3 years in Germany). I appreciate so much the chance to travel and see the world and let my children know more about the world. However, it does mean that visits with family are rare. My children dont get much of that special grandparent time; you know, to really feel so special. My husband and I also have not been able to lean on family as much. In addition, friends and neighbors also move frequently. We have to make friendships quickly and then be ready for our dear friends to move on or for us to move on just as the friendships get close. Club Beyond has been a God-send. My children look forward to Mondays, Club day. The Club Beyond staff spends so much time and energy preparing wholesome and fun activities for the kids. Then, on Sundays, my children actually enjoy their more focused Bible-study time. In addition, Jacob enjoys the once a month lunchtime with Club Beyond at the high school. Club Beyond has been a constant in my sons life; something he could count on both here in Germany and in Korea. Jacob attended Centrifuge, a summer camp, and went on a ski trip in Korea; here in Germany he attended Winter Blitz this December. He is looking forward to the summer mission trip to Romania this June. My two younger children, Caitlin and Thomas, attended Adventure Camp during spring break this year. As a parent, it is so reassuring to know that I have a place where my children can have fun, be safe, and be cared for by Godly adults. ~ Robin Anderson, military spouse and mother of three Club kids

Thank you for standing with us as we have the privilege of ministering to these and many other military families!

The leadership at MCYM recently asked Austin if he would begin directing the ministry here in Heidelberg starting this fall. The rest of the staff at this post will be moving within the next six months, and the base itself will be closing following the 2012-13 school year. This is a great honor and opportunity, not only for the experience of finishing ministry well after 26 years in this location, but also because the International Director of MCYM/Club Beyond and his wife have expressed a desire to personally walk along side us as mentors through this first year of "solo ministry". All of this adds up to an incredible opportunity, but none of it will be possible without a significant increase in committed financial supporters. We need YOU to help meet this urgent need!
