PitDesign Reserves 2011
PitDesign Reserves 2011
Reserve calculations By: Jim Lonergan Introduction After running MSEP the LG economic shells (PIT01, PIT02, etc) are used as guidelines for Final Pit Designs and Phase Designs. These designs include toe lines, crest lines and ramps. Reserves are then calculated between the current pit topography and the pit design using procedure PITRES. Reserve files for use in MSSP scheduler are also created in PITRES
1.Design $0.90/$5.00 Final Pit using Minesight Pit Expansion Tool Open Pit02 model view in folder 2011-Dtoq13.opt and contour it. Close model view and limit view to 2200 level.
Click OP Eng Tools Pit Expansion Tool Specify a new geometry object in the 2011-Pit Designs folder (90cent pit) a. Do a Bottom Up expansion. For this case start on level 2200 which is the lowest bench in the LG shell. Digitize the base feature 17 meters inside the LG contour such that the road is inside and outside the LG contour. (The LG shell is a full block surface that should be smoothed during pit design.) use 35m scalable cursor
c. on Optional tab specify Model Item to use for Slope angles. SLOPE contains slope codes
click Codes and fill in table mapping code to inter-ramp slope angle
I use 1 for Fraction of Berm for Road Entrance to keep the full Berm on the inside of the Ramp when doing a Bottom Up expansion. 4
e. Advanced Tab There are many new options here. Road centerlines can be used in MsHaulage and sycnchronize viewer always ensures that the view is up-to-date.
f.
start the Expansion and go up 1 bench at a time. Use Preview, check result, and the click Apply
g. expand the pit until the entire surface is daylighted using both single and multiple expansion options. h. There is an UNDO function in Pit Expansion Tool. Highlight the benches you want to erase in the History List and click UNDO
At Toquepala 25m wide safety berms are required every 150m up the pit wall above 2500 bench. These are specified on the Required Tab in Pit Expansion Tool
Notes on Pit Design: 1. Pit Expansion Tool - Roads A. 4-Way Road Intersections Use Switchbacks on both roads, Zero Expansion, and Edit Toes. B. 3-Way Road Intersections with 2 existing roads Use Switchback on 1 Road, Stop other road, Zero Expansion, and Edit Toes C. 3-Way Road Intersections with 1 existing road Use Switchback on Existing Road, Zero Expansion, Edit Toes, and Add New Road. D. Things to try when Road Stops
Check for Duplicate Points at Road Gate. (i.e where ramp, toe and crest lines merge) Delete Toe or Crest Points (depends on Expansion Direction) that are very close to the Road Gate. Make sure there are not internal points on the road gate line segment E. Road Starting Points and Road Mergers Use Multiple Expand in Preview Mode to see how roads will approach each other and adjust starting points accordingly when 4 way or 3 way intersections are required. F. Fraction of Berm for Road Entrance 1 will keep the full berm on the inside of the ramp during Upward Expansion 0 will keep the full berm on the inside of the ramp during Downward Expansion G. Set your Edit Grid cell size to the length of ramp needed for 1 bench elevation change for additional guidance on future road positions. H. When defining roads with 2 points, the first point is always on the inside of the ramp I. To balance ore loss under ramps with extra stripping caused by ramps digitize starting base string ramp width inside the LG economic pit bottom contour.
2. Pit Expansion Tool Base Strings A. Use Additional Base Strings to Follow Pit Shell Stepouts. Outline the stepout and then close the base strings using additional nodes inside the toe during upward expansions. Outline the stepout and then close the base strings using additional nodes outside the crest during downward expansions. B. When using Base Strings to slice off narrow noses be sure to include an internal node on the nose. C. If adding a new Base String encompasses a road, then stop that road and start a new one on the base string D. Use Base Strings to Combine Merging Pits 3. Pit Expansion Tool Editing Toes and Crests A. If doing complex editing (more than just point adds, point deletes, and point moves) Make sure edited strings are closed and in correct direction. Global Combine tends to reverse original string direction.
2. Triangulate final pit design, merge with Topo, and create a solid. You may triangulate the design upon exiting pit expansion tool. Otherwise triangulate using Surface Triangulate Surface a. You want to triangulate with toes, crests and ramp lines only. Therefore make base features (Pit Base material) unselectable from the viewer before triangulating
10
Merge Design with TOPO. Use Surfaces Intersect Surfaces with final pit design DTM as Secondary Surface and current Topo DTM as Primary Surface a. Merge the Pit Design into the current topo with Merged Surfaces and Cut Surface (Diff)
11
b. create a solid of the material below TOPO and Inside the Final Pit Design. Use same two objects as above for Primary and Secondary surfaces and check Solids and Cut Solid. Name the object 90 cent pit solido. Make sure yellow box icon is off!!
12
13
Create Partials file from the Cut solid object using Surfaces Generate Partials Tool
File pit90.prt:
14
Query Solid to get total tonnage estimate based on a constant specific Gravity specified in Project Settings.
Total Volume from reserving programs should match this volume number (within reason).
5. Pit Reserves using PITRES Use PITRES to calculate proven and probable reserves using the partials file created above (pit90.prt) In Compass set Group = 7a-Pit Optimization MSEP and Operation = Reporting and select procedure PITRES
15
16
Pitres now allows up to 30 grade items for reporting. CONF is resource class code.
17
18
Run again specifying Volume reporting for Waste to check total volume reported by PITRES with Volume reported by Minesight Query.
