Alec can have the royal flushes with cards 1-5, 2-6, 3-7, 4-8 & 5-

9. He cannot have any other royal flushes because the problem states
that Chimayo has a higher royal flush which is not possible with the
cards 6-10 or above. Now we need to figure out what is the probability
that each of these hands will occur.
Let us take the example of cards 1-5. The first car we could pull
could be the 1S, 2S, 3S, 4S, 5S, 1H, 2H ... This leads to 20 different
choices out of 52 so 20/52.
The next card he pulls will have to be of the same suite and one
of the 4 other numbers he picked, hence the probability he keeps on
his path towards a royal flush is 4/51.
The next card he pull will have to be of the same suite and one of
the 3 other numbers he picked, hence the probability he keeps on his
path towards a royal flush is 3/50.
This can be applied to the next two cards he pulls resulting with
2/49 & 1/48. Let us now figure out the probability he will get a straight
with cards 1-5.
20 4 3 2 1 1
Chance : 1 − 5 = • • • • =
52 51 50 49 48 649740
This same logic can be applied to 2-6, 3-7, and 4-8.
Now for Chance 1-5 there are 4 different royal flushes Chimayo
can play: 6-10, 7-11, 8-12, 9-13, and 10 - 1.
For each of these royal flushes Chance 1-5 must be true. Let us
take the example of Chimayo playing 6-10. So he can play one of the
cards 6-10 of the same suite that Alec has chosen, so his probability is
5/47.
Just like when Alec chose the probability will become, 4/46, 3/45,
2/44, and 1/43.
So the probability for Chance 1-5 to be completely true should be
(1/649740) * (5/47) * (4/46) … But our mistake is that 6-10 is not the
only possibility there are five possibilities so the equation for Chance 1-
5 is:
1 5 4 3 2 1 5
Chance : 1 − 5 = • 5( • • • • )=
649740 47 46 45 44 43 996661525860
1 5 4 3 2 1 4
Chance : 2 − 6 = • 4( • • • • )=
649740 47 46 45 44 43 996661525860
1 5 4 3 2 1 3
Chance : 3 − 7 = • 3( • • • • )=
649740 47 46 45 44 43 996661525860
1 5 4 3 2 1 2
Chance : 4 − 8 = • 2( • • • • )=
649740 47 46 45 44 43 996661525860
1 5 4 3 2 1 1
Chance : 5 − 9 = • 1( • • • • )=
649740 47 46 45 44 43 996661525860
I have also added the chances of 2-6, 3-7, 4-8, and 5-9 to here
which can be solved by the logic I displayed for 1-5. Now the total
chance is equal to the sum of the chances of these 4 chances.
5 4 3 2 1 15
Total = + + + + =
