Welcome!

Each year Shell Eco-marathon poses a unique challenge for students around the world: to design and build vehicles that go as far as possible on 1 litre of fuel or 1 kilowatt hour of electricity. After three happy years at EuroSpeedway Lausitz in Germany, we are proud that the 28th edition of the competition is taking place in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. For the first time the contest will take place on city streets, taking the action closer to the public and turning the event into a showcase for the students immense efforts. At our new location we have also introduced an attraction called The Lab where all members of the family can take an interactive, educational journey into the future of energy, technology and mobility. Shell has found a perfect partner in the City of Rotterdam: a vibrant city which is one of the worlds transport hubs, right at the heart of Europe. More importantly, the city shares a passion for smarter mobility, as demonstrated by their continuous efforts to improve air quality, reduce traffic noise and cut CO2 emissions. During this years competition, the City of Rotterdam and Shell will host the Powering Progress Together Forum to promote debate about the future of energy and how that interconnects with two other vital resources: water and food. It will bring together business leaders, academics, specialists from the energy, water and food industries, and experts from governments and non-governmental organisations to discuss and better understand the connections between the worlds energy, water and food systems. What better atmosphere for such a forum than the spirit of innovation and passion that embodies Shell Eco-marathon? With the competition, the Forum, The Lab and many other activities, Shell and its partners trust you will find the event both enjoyable and inspiring!
