El verbo to be

Modo Afirmativo & Negativo TO BE significa ser o estar pero depende del contexto de la frase, y de lo que se quiere expresar. Este verbo puede tener 4 significados bsicos: Ser, Estar, Tener, Hacer. En la siguiente tabla se indica la modalidad del verbo que se usa con cada pronombre personal, as como las contracciones en afirmativo y negativo. Se encuentra una columna titulada contraccin, sta demuestra la forma ms sencilla y simplificada de la conjugacin del verbo. Las contracciones se forman con un apostrofe () como se muestra en la tabla. Ejemplos: SER O ESTAR Youre not French. We are from France. I am in France. T no eres francs. Somos de Francia. Estoy en Francia.

TENER Se utiliza para expresar la edad: Im 19 years old. Tengo 19 aos. Peter isnt 24 years old. Peter no tiene 24 aos.

Se utiliza tambin para expresar sensaciones: You are thisty. She is cold. Tu tienes sed. Ella tiene frio.

HACER Se utiliza para hablar del tiempo atmosfrico: Its not very cold outside. Its hot inside No hace mucho frio afuera. Hace calor adentro.

Modo Interrogativo La forma interrogativa del verbo to be requiere de hacer cambios en el orden, agregar un signo de interrogacin solo al final y a diferencia de las afirmativas o negativas, omite el uso de contracciones. Enseguida se mostraran algunos ejemplos: She is cold. Its hot inside. Is she cold? Is it hot inside?

You are thirsty. We are from France.

Are you thirsty? Are we from France?

Como se puede observar, la conjugacin del verbo cambia de lugar, en estos casos se ubica al principio de cada oracin y el resto conserva el orden de origen. Para contestar existen 2 formas distintas, la primera corta, y la segunda mas detallada. Is she cold? Yes, she is./ No, she is not. (Ella tien frio?) Si, si tiene./ No, no tiene. Is she cold? Yes, shes cold./ No, shes not cold. Si, ella tiene frio. / No ella no tiene frio. Ms ejemplos: Are you an engineer? Is your mom pretty? Is your dog black? Yes I am. Yes she is. No, its not.
