Application Guideline of the Research Students of MEXT Scholarship for 2025 in Cambodia

Embassy of Japan in Cambodia
The MEXT Scholarship is a prestigious scholarship for studying in Japan provided by the Ministry of
Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology of Japan (MEXT). MEXT offers 4 categories of
scholarship to general applicants:
➢ (R) Research Students
➢ (U) Undergraduate Students
➢ (C) College of Technology Students
➢ (S) Specialized Training College Students
※ Notes
Currently, only category of Research Students is open for application.
Regarding the application for categories of Undergraduate, College of Technology, and Specialized
Training College Students will be announced later.
1. Outline
(1) Applicants are required to fill in information on the designated application form and submit all necessary
documents from 12 April to 17 May, 2024 as indicated in the below “3. Application Process”.
(2) The Embassy of Japan will shortlist applicants to the written examination based on the transcript and
research proposal submitted by applicants.
(3) The Embassy of Japan will hold the written examination on 2 June, 2024 at the Royal University of Phnom
Penh (RUPP) under the conditions indicated in below “4.Written Examination”.
(4) The applicants who pass the written examination will take an interview examination on 19 June, 2024 at
the Embassy of Japan in Cambodia.
2. Requirements
Category Requirements
➢ Nationality: be a citizen of Cambodia
➢ Academic Background:
For Master’s course: graduate from university (Bachelor’s Degree)
For Doctoral course: graduate from university (Master’s Degree)
Research
(including prospective graduates)
Students
➢ Age: Born on or after April 2, 1990
➢ Transcript: At least 70% of cumulative Grade Point Average or
GPA ≥ 2.8/4 (average from first year to final year) in the last university or graduate
school attended

3. Application Process
The Embassy requires the documents listed below as the necessary documents for the application before the
written examination.

➢ Attach necessary documents using designated forms* and submit them to this email address

(Your Name)”.
※ Please make sure to fill in the online form before submitting all necessary documents and specify
date/time of the submitted online form.

Applicants are required to use designated forms for the documents indicated with “*”.

(2) Submission of an application does not guarantee applicants a seat in the written examination.
The Embassy strongly advises applicants to check their eligibility, required documents, and entered
information thoroughly.
(3) In the cases listed below, applicants will be disqualified even if the Embassy receives the application:
1. Applicants do not fulfill all the requirements
2. Applicants do not submit all the necessary documents
3. Applicants do not use the forms designated by the Embassy
4. Applicants do not follow the deadline set by the Embassy
5. Applicants submit more than one application form
4. Written Examination
(1) Written Examination will be held at the Royal University of Phnom Penh on 2 June 2024.
(2) Applicants shall follow other conditions which will be released one week before the examination day.
(3) If the applicants are late for the meeting time, they will not be allowed to enter the examination room
and will be disqualified from taking the examination.

5. Benefits of MEXT Scholarship
MEXT Scholarship will provide the following benefits to successful applicants:
(1) Allowance: from 143,000 yen per month for Research Students
(2) Education Fees: Fee for the entrance examination, matriculation, and tuition at designated school will be
covered by MEXT
(3) Traveling Expense: Transportation to/from Japan
(4) Opportunity to extend the period of scholarship to higher education under MEXT Scholarship Program.
