News Bulletin from the General Curia of the Congregation of the Mission The Curia House
During the month we have had several visitors in the Curia. Among them were the Archbishop of Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea, and our confrere, Rolando Santos, Bishop of Alotau-Sideia in Papua New Guinea; some relatives of Javier and Flix lvarez; and the confreres of the Commission for the Revision of the Ratio Formationis.

The Activities of Stanislav Zontak

After Easter this year, Father Zontak, Assistant General, went to the Region of Cameroon (Province of Paris) for the canonical visitation. This visit began on 2 May and concluded on the 31st of the same month. The beginnings of the Region of Cameroon go back to 1980 when the French confreres (Paul Limousin and Pierre Hahn) came to Nsimalen, a parish entrusted to the Archbishop of Yaound. The confreres, in addition to the pastoral works in the parish, collaborated in the formation of the diocesan clergy, as well as the beginning of the formation of our own. In 2003 the Provincial Council of Paris made an important decision: In view of raising the mission to a Region, it opened three canonical houses (Bua, Yaound (Nkolafm), and Nsimalen). On 29 June 2004, with the consent of the Superior General, the Region was erected and Emmanuel Typamm was named Regional Superior. At present, the Region has five juridically constituted houses (four in Cameroon and one in the Central African Republic). There are 38 incorporated confreres: 33 priests, three brothers, a deacon, and an incorporated student. The Region has seven students in theology, 13 in philosophy, and five in the preparatory year. The average age of the provinces members is 41 years. The confreres work in three African countries: 28 in Cameroon, three in the Central African Republic, and one in Chad; and two European countries: five in France and one in Greece. The pastoral work is varied: parishes, the sick, prisons, education, lay formation, and with the Vincentian Family present in the area: Daughters of Charity, Sisters of Charity of Saint Jeanne Antide, Association of the Miraculous Medal, Vincentian Marian Youth, and the International Association of Charities. The Assistant General noted that the confreres love the Congregation and work with great fervor. They have good relations with the people and are particularly sensitive to the needy and the poor. We pray that the confreres of the Region of Cameroon continue always to be open to the cry of the poor and of the Church and that this Region continues growing in fidelity to our charism.

The Commission for the Revision of the Ratio Formationis

From 25-29 June, the Commission for the Revision of the Ratio Formationis met for its third session. The members of this Commission are: Orlando Escobar (Colombia), Dominique Iyolo (Congo), Gerard Luttenberger (USA-East), Jn Martinek (Vice-Province of Saints Cyril and Methodius - Slovakia), Robert Petkovek (Slovenia), and Joy Thuruthel (South India). The major work of this session was the review of the second drafts of the documents each member had prepared. After doing the reviews and determining what must be done for a final draft, the Commission agreed on a schedule for accomplishing the next stages of its work. It will send its final draft to the General Council for its comments during the September Tempo Forte meeting and then to the Visitors Meeting, which will be held in July 2013, to receive its contributions too. We congratulate the Commission that has endeavored to carry out a good work.
