FMM-420 MODULE

PROGRAMMING UPDATE

FMM-420 MODULE
Before we can connect a device to our SLC, it makes sense to understand the operating characteristics of a 4-20 device

In most cases, the device will have 3 wires that connect to the FMM-420 Module. The wires consist of: Negative (-) Sense Positive (+)

Setup XCD in Source Mode Via Switch Setting on back of Display Module

FMM-420 MODULE
The Sensor inside the Device has an Operating Range of 4 20 mA meaning, this is the EFFECTIVE SENSING RANGE of the detector

FMM-420 MODULE
- The FMM-420 Analog Input Module allows the NFS2-3030 Fire Alarm Control Panel (FACP) to monitor Industry-Standard, Linear-Scale, 420 mA protocol Sensors.

- The FMM-420 Module converts the sensor output to communication protocol that can be interpreted by the FACP for monitoring and display.

- Numerous sensors are available in the marketplace that communicate using a 420 mA output, including Gas Sensors, Temperature Sensors, Air Speed Sensors, and more.

Without AHJ approval Gas Sensing Devices are NOT to be used to indicate a Fire Condition

FMM-420 MODULE
To install the FMM-420 Module, your database MUST be 14.0 or higher

FMM-420 MODULE

Select FMM 4-20

FMM-420 MODULE
After selecting FMM-420 Type Code CBE-3, 4, 5, 6 and 7 are highlighted. We will look at specific CBE programming later in this presentation.

STEP 1 Specific Device Information

STEP 2 Device Thresholds

STEP 3 Device CBEs

FMM-420 MODULE

0 100

Operating Range is: 4 mA to 20 mA

4 mA represents 0 % in this case
4 mA 0% 20 mA 100 %

20 mA represents 100 % in this case

FMM-420 MODULE

0 100 PPM

Units is the measurement unit of the device: - Parts Per Million (PPM) - Parts Per Billion (PPB) - etc. UNITS is a required field for the device. This value is used as a programming reference and is not used for FACP computations.

FMM-420 MODULE

0 100 PPM 5
Hysteresis is a percentage range along the 4 mA to 20 mA scale
If the measurement range is from 0 to 100, you may choose to have a Hysteresis percentage range of 5. If so, 9 would be the low end and 14 would be the high end of the moving percentage range as shown in the graphic below.

Click the THRESHOLDS button:

FMM-420 MODULE
A blank Threshold screen appears when clicking the Threshold button

When planning your programming in the threshold screen, it is important to know what Values will be significant for the device you have installed, because the Value will correspond directly with a CBE Before inserting a Value, you must check the CBE box on the left.

FMM-420 MODULE

For this example, I will check ALL the CBEs Once a CBE box is checked, Latching is automatically checked. If you do NOT want the Value to trigger a latching event, uncheck Latching. Keep in mind that CBE 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7 are automatically assigned to Thresholds 1 5.

FMM-420 MODULE

At this point in my programming, I have decided to use all the CBEs and a fairly even range of 15, 30, 45, 60 and 75 These values are what my device will read in its chamber or sensor

Upon this value being recognized, I must decide what EVENT will correspond with the value

FMM-420 MODULE

Note that I have several options for my event types. Since Fire Codes dont allow us to generate a Fire Alarm by using a GAS detection device, I will select Non-Fire Trouble

FMM-420 MODULE

When Non-fire Trouble was selected, Trouble 1 automatically appeared in the Trouble Type field. However, before we can set the Trouble Type, we must first set our Trigger field. The choice Specific Level, simply looks at the SPECIFIC Level of your Value. Upper Limit, is when the Value is reached in an upward direction and Lower Limit is when the Value is reached in a downward direction. For this example, I will use Upper Limit

FMM-420 MODULE

Once the TRIGGER Value has been set, we can select a Trouble Type Our choices are: Trouble 1, Trouble 2 and Device Inhibit If we choose Device Inhibit, when the FMM-420 is in a self-calibration state, a trouble will be generated at the FACP.

For this example, I have used the Values for the Zone numbers. REMEMBER Without AHJ approval Gas Sensing Devices are NOT to be used to indicate a Fire Condition
