Petition of Concerned Sudanese Citizens in Kenya to the Government of Sudan

Date: July 13.2012

To: Mr. Omer Hassan Ahmed Al-Bashir, President of Sudan c/o: His Excellency, Mr. Kamal Ismail, Sudanese Ambassador to Kenya

Subject: Support for the Sudanese opposing hunger, austerity measures and the on-going and Recent Escalation of Human Rights Abuses by the Government of Sudan We are a group of concerned Sudanese citizens residing in Kenya, who have been watching with grave concern the sufferings of the average Sudanese national to survive the fast up scaling living expenses as a result of the wrong, unwise and bias policies of the junta in Sudan. We strongly refuse and object to the hard way this regime is facing the peaceful demonstrations on face of hunger and human rights abuses that are taking place peacefully all around the country. We are resisting and rejecting the unjustified thrashings, usage of prohibited tear gases, shootings and torturing the demonstrators and peace activists. The recent escalation of violence by the government security forces against peaceful and unarmed civilian citizens in many parts of Sudan. Eye witnesses, survivors testimonies, and monitoring reports from news outlets have confirmed that there have been wide-spread human rights violations in Darfur, South Kordofan and Blue Nile States, as well as in other regions and states, including, arbitrary arrests, NGO expulsions, extrajudicial killings, unfair trials based on public order laws, coordinated attacks against South Sudanese, and undermining of the freedoms of expression and association, to mention a few. The failure of this regime has brought the present uprising which is on the footsteps of October 1964 and Aril 1985 revolutions that had thrown away similar regimes. The will and the desire of the Sudanese nation are strong enough to throw the junta away and decide its fate. We are: Recalling our Sudanese peoples history of resistance; Asserting our citizens right to peaceful demonstration and freedom of association, and assembly; Affirming the rights of all media outlets both printed and electronic to freedom of expression; Confirming our citizens right to life and liberty;
1

Condemning the use of excessive force, torture, the employment of popular defence force militias, arbitrary detentions and the on-going harassment by members of the Sudanese security apparatus, and the militias of the National Conference Party; Validating our commitments to respecting our citizens choices on the system of government they desire; Reinforcing our commitments to all international human rights instruments, including the International Criminal Court; Supporting our citizens legitimate concerns regarding the economic conditions in the country and its impact on peoples livelihoods;

We are deeply concerned that the continuation of this situation is counter-productive, and totally unacceptable. It is indeed against all recognised and internationally agreed human rights and freedoms, and also contrary to basic morals and human decency. As such, we are calling on the Government of Sudan in general, and President Al-Bashir, specifically, to immediately:
1. Stop all forms of harassment, intimidation, arbitrary arrests, and torture of our

fellow Sudanese citizens; 2. Repeal all laws and government pronouncements that curtail and limit citizens basic freedoms and rights to assembly, association, and expression of their legitimate grievances against the government of Sudan and its security apparatus; 3. Bring to an end its military campaigns against unarmed citizens in Darfur, Kordofan, and the Blue Nile States, and to start resolving the historical grievances of these areas through peaceful negotiations.

We, the group of Sudanese residing in Kenya, submitting this petition, insist that the above-mentioned demands be met immediately, in line with all agreeable international human rights standards, and without delay.

Signed: Sudanese Citizens Residing in Nairobi, Kenya July.13. 2012
