FIVE MATH POEMS is an unacceptable

by Eileen Tupaz
- zero
i'm tired of being a zero vector
we are born

as identity matrices
i'm tired of being a zero vector
[nonzero]
with no direction
[nonempty]
no dimension
a subset
and no magnitude;
of the complexity
what i need is another element
that is the universe
- but that would be
until fate hands us a scalar
a contradiction
from the twin ends of infinity
of my definition
and we grow in magnitude
soulmates
to become universes
we are all of us
- ourselves
nonsingular creatures
breaking point
whose identities
a vector
must be affirmed
is a scalar
before our inverses
that has been pushed
can be found
- too far
conformity

why must life

be a diagonal matrix?

where every other path

that deviates from the main
