COURSES - PHIL200A - Great Works of West Philosophy 1

An examination of some of the greatest writings in Western Philosophy. The course will consider, among the dialogues of Plato, those that deal with the person and philosophy of Socrates, some of Aristotle's writings on ethics and metaphysics, writings by Stoic and Epicurean philosophers, Augustine, Thomas Aquinas, Descartes, and Hobbes. The lectures lead the student to a critical comprehension of these important sources in the history of our culture.
