"Factions"

What They Are "Factions" -- Fact + Fiction. Also, kunstprosa, or art prose. Generally understood as elevated discourse, bridging prose and poetry. For me, however, "faction" happens when what begins as nonfiction morph into fiction. The piece may in the end be weighted on the side of nonfiction or on the side of fiction. If it becomes too "fictionie," then it's no longer "faction" but plain and simple fiction. In the words of Joan Didion: "...not only have I always had trouble distinguishing between what happened and what merely might have happened...I remain unconvinced that the distinction, for my purposes, matters." ––"On Keeping a Notebook"
